Im a new owner of an equip series II VX and i want to start modding it up.. i was wondering if anybody can let me know of some basic DIY mods and engine info to get me started
Personal tips/advice or links would be great
Help would be greatly apreciated
Thanks
Im guessing youve just got a v6? non supercharged?
if so its a ecotec 3.8 with 153kw pushrod engine.
There isnt really much you can DIY with these motors but you can start off small
ye jst 2 start you could replace the standard filter with a (K&N or lukey) should be around $100 for a K&N and bit cheaper for a lukey If it growls, it's a Lukey
and a cold air intake SS Inductions - Performance Automotive Enhancements that sould be like $300
with them you wont notice much differnece but its a good start and adds up once you do other things.
then go a cat back exhaust around $400
and later if you want more power get extractors and new cat.
but it depends on how much u want 2 spend hope that helps
Y/T Roller rockers, then CAI then finally Exhaust, they breath well already!!
Change all fluids to high quality low friction, amazing the difference that can make!! I mean Engine Trans and Diff....
If it's Auto Diff gears will get it off the line quicker, but Manual, not really worth it unless you want to be spinning wheels and constantly changing gears![]()
If I'm not pulling Toyota's out of the Bush, I'm pulling 12's in the Sig :-)
awesome.. thanks heaps for that ill do my researchanyone got any other tips or advice?
LSD good if u like sliding....
ah ok.. thatss just what i need some clarification haha, im very new to this so it helps with some details cheers
As a VX owner, ive got a pod filter setup on mine which consists of removing all of the factory air box and plumbing up my own for the pod filter to mount to, gives shit loads more power. As for LSD, some of the VX's came with optional LSD's as mine already has it. But i highly recommened lowering it, they look sweet slammed. i hope this can help with some ideas
i have pics on here of my vx under VT-VX pics so u can c how low a vx can go on inters
I tried the Pod......
I had 132 rwkw with it, Then I made my own CAI with a 4" tube running under the Bumper 138rwkw same dyno!! Could have been fuel and conditions, but I felt a difference imediately![]()

I just bought the exact same car (VX series 2 2002 equip) and im looking at doin it up a bit to. I already have cold air intake and a sound system but not sure what to go to next. Im thinking of lowering it with king springs (dno bowt 30-35mm or 50-60mm not sure yet) but then putting on VY SS rims (18"). then i want to do the exhaust thinking the 2.5" cat back with headers but dont know how much im looking at for that. It is an Auto so i want it to get more kick when it changes gears.. can sumone help me out with all of this please???
Ok, a few quick questions for my VT...
1. What benefits do roller rockers give? I have never looked into them so have no clue how they work.
2. Which are the best brand of extractors for a V6 ecotec?
for question 2: Pacemaker headers, someone else can help on the first question
if your ripping burnouts, i killed my stock holden lsd in a matter of months, their not that tough as im sure quite a few people on this forum have also found. if you plan to go doing burnouts, plan to eitha get a real tough one built or be prepared to rebuild it frequently
roller rockers will give you some gain, but for the money you will spend on it, not enough to justify the cost.
high ratio rockers open the valve further than stock ones do allowing more air and fuel into the motor, you really need to get it tuned to feel the full effects of them
as said above, pacemaker are the best brand, however again for the money, they will make it sound better but not go much better.
with those, a tune, and a decent 2.5" exhaust system you would be lucky to push 140rwkw for the money
you considered some nicer wheels or springs for it? v6 = showpony![]()
