    Default VT Suggestions

    Hey everyone,

I have a VT wagon, and I was wondering what sort of mods I can do to give it a bit more go as well as more fuel economy.

I've read that you can get a VS SC CAI for them to make it breathe better and an exhaust. I was talking to my mate who said extractors and 2.5 inch cat back exhaust will give me about 15 kilowatts more at the wheels. My friend has a 3 inch exhaust on his supercharged calais model, so I was wondering if I should just put a 3 inch exhaust on? His car has more power than my mates VS V6 so I was thinking the 3 inch would be a good idea.

Also it won't do burnouts with the brake in "D" like I read on the forum. My other mates AU Falcon (lolll) is able to do them though and I don't see what the difference would be. Should I get a line locker? Or can I clamp my rear brakelines whenever I'm going out to do skids? Not on the road or anything, just in private carparks and bus stations.

I've got lots more questions, but I don't want to look too much like a newb.

    Thanks everyone!

hey, you do realise in drive with the foot brake on the drive clutch plates slip, to stop driveline wind up. you either need to get it to somehow start spinning, without the assistance of a break, like by placing the front end into a wall, thus stopping forward motion, so all drive is transferred to a burnout, or, go from n to d on redline, this causes maximum fluid pressure from the valvebody and the drive plates to engage,

this is the safest way for burnouts, without risking transmission brakeages, or any other breakages.

Hi Peter, thanks for the reply. It was raining before so I'll try it out when it dries up a bit. With going from N to D, should I have the brake on, or no brake? Would the handbrake work?

best to try it now, not easter. vt's love water. can i surgest if you do wanna get some slip on the actual road though, not water as it runs off the camber of the road too quick, try some used 15w40 oil, that will create some spin, and good smoke.

also another surgestion, go back to astra size 15 tyres, less diameter. 195/60r15's i think, or even go skinnier if available.

no brakes, just into it mate, she'll be right

    your sincerly peter,

p.s. glenn, if you have more trouble still, remove half your diff oil. sometimes the diff oil when trying to spin quick builds up a positive pressure in the diff housing from the quickly spinning chrown wheel assembly, and this will cause the oil to melt. best off to have 200ml or less of diff oil only, its the safest way

    Hi,

Is there a DIY guide for checking the diff fluid level? Is it something easy to do or should I get a mechanic to do it?
My mate has a few bottles of oil left over from when he services his car so I'll just pinch those and give it a shot. I'm guessing I won't need to go from N to D then? I'm worried I'll blow up my transmission but I want to be able to do good burnouts too.

Does anyone know about the exhausts? I like the whistling sounds my mates Calais makes, but is a 3 inch exhaust ok for my wagon? His is a sedan

    Thanks

mate you can get one of this new fang dangeled sophiscated noise maker machines that hook to your tps and place a speaker underneath and a little computer isnide, and you choice what your car sounds like inside on the computer thingo, and dependant on throttle positionm it makes the noise that car would in those circumstances

i seen it on pimp my ride, maybe you need to pimp your ride like my vl uleh

mo ofeense but this is one of he most UNSAFEST things to do to a transmission, do not try or you are asking for trouble.

Why are you so keen on getting the wheels to spin, your prob only gona get one to spin which is nothing impressive anyway, not that spinning two is, but your really not gona impress anyone by making a wheel spin IMO.
Not meaning to sound like a wanker but you should be looking at ways to provide maximum traction, not juat trying to do a burnout.. thats what is gona leave the others behind.

Btw i think someone asked something about checking diff oil..
If you get under your car and have a look at the diff youl notice two bolts much larger thatthe others (sometimes they are just either 3/8 or 1/2 inch drives though) one will be towards the bottom on its own and there will be one somewhere just above the centre of the diff. Obviously the bottom one is the drain plug and top is filler plug. To check levels just take is the filler plug and dip your finger in (make sure your finger will eaily fit before you put in as its not fun getting it stuck in there ). The level should be just below the hole and a yelowish colour.

whistling? id say his car is supercharged Also, your car will be faster in N if you put a 3" exhaust on. The biggest i would be putting on would be a 2.5"

This is as funny as all hell - he said his mates calais with a 3 inch exhaust was supercharged - then wonders why it has more power and why it whistles??? Hey bud if you want to blow something up, make it more of a crapbox than a VT wagon - they're still a nice car...

    IMHO, of course...

Lay a spike strip before the rear tyres,
When they pop the rims will spin causing a loud sound with bonus sparks

Get on ebay, buy an old VL or VN and use that for burnouts. Don't ruin a good VT.

i'd only go the 2.5inch exhaust as the 3"is way to big for your car atm, if you like your mates whistle noise go get yourself a supercharger, dont even attempt redline your car in N then shifting to D that cant be good for your gearbox and if you want to do good burnouts (not at public areas) just put either oil or water on your rear tires as meantioned above and clamp your rear brakes if you dont wanna wear your rear brakes.
