Anyone with HID's ??

hey guys, just a quick question....

just wanted to know if any1 has HID lights fitted on there commodores ?

i was thinking about getting the conversion kit and replacing the halogen bulbs with the HID ones ..

Just wanted to see if anyone has done them or if there are any problems you may run into during installation or if any has had any issues with them ?

I've done a few sets, none specifically on the VT. They are a sweet upgrade, and you'll be very happy with them as long as you get a decent brand. installation is'nt too hard but if you have no idea about wiring, maybe you should get it professionally installed. Also might have to drill holes in headlight caps.

i have them in my mums for and in my Datsun, and ill be putting them into my Vu shortly, no worrys at all with any of them, dust caps on the back need to be modified to put the new wires threw, or you can just leave them off,

hehe had them in the vn for nearly 3 years, great investment but u get flashed all the time. only had one drama the normal high beem didnt come on, but who needs it when your low beem is twice as bright anyway

only problem is i need to take front bumper off and take headlights off to install them have hardly any room to get my hands in there.

most of the brands sold now are nearly the same and ur looking round $110 - $200. But deff ill post some pics of it when i finish installing them.

1 other problem is i need to buff my headlight aswell n get the lens clear again so beam comes through clear

the car wasnt designed with them.. not legal, no lenses to focus the light, no washer for the light. that's 2 reasons, i dont know any others

nah not really, they just say that it MAY dazzle on coming traffic,
aim them down and it shouldnt be a problem.

you would have to be doing some stupid shit for the jacks to dick you on Hid's.

they wouldnt bother just for that. as its so easy to change them back over. 1hour tops!

You will look like a knob without having the proper headlights. And it’s a hazard to other drivers.

The best way around this is to buy the Altezza head lights from eBay or where ever, which have the projector lenses.

They are also illegal because they are NOT self leveling. There is also something that if they don’t have features to remove frost or water they are illegal also.

ive neva heard of any1 gettin done with them, also the roads in sydney r shit anyways n u always get blinded with the standard halogen lights n e wyz so i dont see the diff, plus u have shit dump drivers that neva see u comin aswell so this could be a eye opener for them

i know of people being warned about having them, i just stick with the brighter white / blue kits from the auto shops that are legal. I do honestly hate coming up the road and getting blinded by sum1 wid HID's

Just because you have never been done, Doesn’t mean they are legal. Do a search, There is a fair bit of information on them within the sight.

Halogen headlights are made to throw a lil light up to light up street signs. Just enough so it doesn't(shouldn't) dazzle people. When you throw HID's in, that "lil light" becomes ****ing bright. Even with projectors thats aren't designed for HID's, they throw too much light up. With proper HID projectors, that light is minimized, the cutoff line is designed better so it doesn't blind people, its got built in autowashers, and a self leveling system.
Chances are if you've been blinded by HIDs it wouldn't of been in cars which halogen headlights with a PnP HID kit eg. hondas and shit

i think you will find alot of those Brighter white/ Blue kits are also only "for off road Use"

i agree with getting the aftermarket headlights with the lenses in them. im saving up for them next. some focus is better than none,

i dont know about other kits, but the ones i have been using actually have a deflector over half the "globe" to keep the light level cut off at a reasonable height.

Altezza's with HID's

Its not that bad But when you compare it to proper HID projectors you can see the difference in the cutoff line shape

eg. modded s2000 projectors to give it more colour


The altezza's flick up whereas the s2000 doesn't. If you were to stand on the left with the altezza's you'll still get dazzled even though its focused.

I've had HIDs for a while now. I've tried every possible way to make a perfect cut-off line but no chance! I did manage to get right side a lot wider but the light doesn't sit in properly in it's place inside the headlight so i changed it back. Left side lights up every sign up to 400m ahead of you, it's insane.

When I compare my HIDs for Mercedes of BMW, mine are way brighter though but they do have a perfect cutoff line which I cannot get ah well.

Anyone has HIDs with normal headlights? Is adjustment easier?

i have 8000k hid' in my vs and have been warned about them but i just angled them down, but would recomend getting H.ID'S with altezza headlights other wise it shoots off everywere like my mate's lol, but as the above psot it is imposibile to get ot to be perfect like the bmw wat not but it sure is heaps better than normal globes
