I had it suggested on this forum by a member that I should use 15w/40 diesel engine oil to help with sludge in engine
whats the general opinion of using diese engine oil in a petrol motor I have read other articles thats discourage the use of a diese engine oil in a petrol motor, any suggestions guys
Regards Chris
I guess it depends on the oil as well.
If you look at Mobils range, many of the oils are for both diesel and petrol engines (such as the Super S range). They do have diesel specific oils also, but they are for heavy duty applications (i.e. trucks) and would not be using those in my engine.
Diesel specific oils only have extra detergents and slightly higher film strengths, it won't affect a petrol engine. The other way around may give problems though.
Another thing that I have read about is the use of ATF as an engine flush. Some people say to use straight diesel, but I wouldn't put diesel in my engine.
