Default $21.90 DIY Cold air intake with pictures

Hi all

I sold the VX to my son and he started to do some DIY mods to the airbox.
We took some happy snaps and thought you may like to see em.

http://www.alphalink.com.au/~ryksie/cai/

The cai mods made a nice change in power .
I "think" he said the aircleaner was about $135.00 but I could be wrong.

Yesterday he had a full exhaust system fitted which gave it a heap more get-up and go.

Hmmm...did he measure the gain with the original filter in? before the new exhaust?

We did a very similar thing in our old vr berlina, the intake didn't cost us a cent cos hubby acquired some of the flexible airconditioning duct type tubing. It did make a very noticeable difference too, but we ran ours from the cutouts in the front spoiler which were pretty low to the ground so it was a real pain in the arse when it rained, we had to take it out if we were to go through any decent puddles.

The CAI and the filter were done at the same time so there was no comparison.

Don't forget to reset the computer so it recalibrates itself to take full advantage of the improvements.

1. Perform your modification
2. Run the car at operating temperature for about 5 mins.
3. Turn car off and remove computer (BCM) fuse.
(located in the fuse panel in front of front suspension tower drivers side position 31, which is a red 10 amp fuse in the row closest to the headlight)
4. Leave fuse out for about 5 mins, then replace fuse.
5. Close bonnet and start car without touching the accelerator pedal & run for 5 mins.
6. Turn car off, then on again without touching the accelerator pedal.

Disconnect the battery, stand on the brakes (to drain any excess power out of the system) then connect back up and go for a burn. Best to let the engine get to operating temp first so when you reconnect you can go for a hard bash to give the computer a full range of signals.

The computer should re-adjust every 20 starts anyway.
