VX II Calais V8 Air con compressor problem

Hi there. I live in Sydney and recently took the Calais to a local auto electrician to check the air conditioning as it does not blow cold air, only mild cool air. He regassed and checked the system and told me the compressor is faulty. I don't remember what he said but he did show me the test setup he had connected to my air con and pointed to the two display gauges that did not show the correct readings. So, the quote I received is $1,200 for the replacement compressor and re gas. Can anyone comment please as to whether this is a resonable price to pay for this job and also recommend a reputable place in Sydney that I can take my car to make sure the job gets done properly? I have no idea if you can fit a re manufactured compressor and whether this is a good idea or not anyway. I own this car and want to look after it and keep it in good nick as its a terrific car to drive. ( I commute to Sydney from the Central coast every day), but also hate getting ripped off.

Artarmon Auto Electrical, 69 reserve rd Artarmon 99013831. He is next to the bunnings store at the bottom of the hill. He is very good and know wont he is doing i use he all the time i have a problem. He is there mon to fri early till late.
