i installed 1.97 roller rockers today and followed all the instructions and cleaned my throttle body whilst it was off, put it all back together now my car wont start it turns of then nothing
i didn't think you had to remove the throttle body to change the rockers?
double check you reconnected all sensors, hoses & plugs, then post back.
every thing is reconnected all plugs and sensors
just tried to start it again and it sounded lk it had a little back fire but still wouldnt start
Try and replace with old Rockers. If it starts maybe the valves are staying open and may need to replace Lifters because they aren't compressing enough..
Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say, 'My name is Ray, and I am an alcoholic'?
just put the old ones back in took less than a hour to do and works fine now started first go have test cranking it first..
So whay doesnt the new one work?
You replaced the push rods? so they are the correct length for rockets that high a ratio?
Make sure your engine doesn't have overcasting where the pushrods sit. The pushrods might be touching the overcasting which in turn prevents them from working preventing car from starting. Crow cam do slim design pushrods which are recommended for ecotecs.
Also when i was manualy cranking the engine after fitting the 1.97 there was a pinging/tinging sound coming from the spring i think, but didnt do that after i installed the old rockers back in
Sound like you have no valve clearance and the valves arn't closing.A shorter push rod set might be needed like jesterarts said.I fitted YT 1.9's to mine and they came with new pushrods.I didn't compare the lengths though sorry, but I'm guessing they were shorter.
how can you tell if you have no valve clearance or if it has overcasting
The pushrods might be too fat and fouling on the bottom of the pushrod hole in the heads like Hot-Rod said. I don't know much about the ecotec or how it looks like but that happens on some motors with higher ratio rockers. If you pull a pushrod out you would see where it's been hitting if that's the problem. I thought it would have still started tho, just smashed things up a bit
Yeah... I'm looking at the push rods...
This is taken from the FIT site:
"We Strongly Recommend Purchasing 5/16"s Pushrods when purchasing the 1.95's or 1.97's Extreme Series of High Ratio Rockers. Due to the variances in castings and manufacturing of V6 Ecotec and Supercharged V6 Series Engines from VS to VY there is an increasing incidence of casting overhang into the pushrod recess area not allowing enough clearance for use of the Extreme Series of FIT Rockers. Running 5/16"s Pushrods can solve this problem instantly and easily. 5/16"s Pushrods only take 3 minutes to install and make the installation of 1.95 and 1.97 Rockers possible."
And if the guy at FIT told you otherwise... he is going against what they recommend.
And yes... although you do have a VT... which shouldn't have the issue... 1.97:1 is alot of lift for a ecotec rocker...
This is the reason I went with YT and not FIT... plus the pushrods where included with my 1.95:1 YT RR's.
Good luck with it mate... as I said... my money is on the pushrods still... though it will be interesting to see what the cause is in the end.
Cheers
just ordered some some pushrods to suit them so ill see how i go when they arrive
Any news yet?
how mush were push rods
nah havent but them in again yet hopefully tomorrow night or saturday if the weather holds up
i got the push rods from mace cost around 110 we shipping there crow cam ones
Mace have the 1.98, for less than Fit, i also think they may include the rods like YT. Anything above 1.9 definately need rods. Also turn the engine by hand to check for movement.
well just tried to install again with the 5/16's pushrods and stll wont start no movement or any thing is there a special trick to it... its really pissing me of now
just fitted some mace 1.98 rockers to my dads car and had no problem at all so why dont mine work still?
There could be something wrong with the rockers. They may not be lifting at all, or not enough as previous posters have mentioned to allow enough fuel in. Chuck the Mace 1.98 on your car, then you will know which it is for sure......
