Just bought this new beast. I am a complete noob at performance cars, (actually cars in general). I am learning about the lingo so if i don't know what you are talking about, or I don't seem like I know what i'm talking about please be patient or point me in the right direction so I can learn – everyone has got to start somewhere so this is me:
Name: Tom
Age: 23
Model: 2001 VUII SS Ute
Colour: Black
Engine: V8 5.7L
Gearbox: M6
Exhaust: X-force headers (i think). X-force stainless. I think its a 3" or 2.5" catback.
Brakes: Stock
Suspension: Pedders Sports Ryders ultra lows, Sway bar
Wheels: 17" ALT
Interior: Stock
Misc: It has a dyno sheet so it has obviously been tuned.
Future Mods:
Upgrade brakes (+ put red calipers in)
New tyres & alloys up to 18" (machined black)
Rhino lining in tray (sounds pretty boring but my mate reckons he can do me a bright red finish – awesome)
Hard-top lockable lid.
This might sound a bit weak, but I think its sensible to upgrade the exhaust, transmission and brakes before I look at upgrading the engine. I guess in the future I could do a camshaft upgrade or cold air induction – from reading the other posts those seem to be the things to do.
I never really understood the whole car thing (i used to drive a Daihatsu charade) but now I get it, and I really want to learn more about them. I have a mate who is a mechanic, so I guess I could ask him some stuff too. Any suggestions welcome.

The dyno sheet shows 235kw @ 5300, which is just above stock as far as I know. However I think significant gains were made in the torque department up to 500Nm odd. I will post the sheet if I can find it.
After closer inspection the headers are I believe X-force as the exhaust is. Will also post pic of this. Be forewarned that I haven't taken the cheesy engine cover off yet as it is hindered by the roll bar ;-D.

Looking good mate.
Nice to see another VU SS owner on here. :-)
very nice mate! nice pics too.
im really interested also on how to get the darkened edges
and the 235kw, thats at the wheels, so thats a marked improvement over the stock standard, which is usually about 180-190kw at the wheels for these ss's.
The 225 you read on redbook etc is engine kw. Theres a difference between egine kw and rear wheel kw![]()
Absolute sex on wheels the black vu ss's.. especially the 6spd's.. I miss mine![]()
Very nice ute mate. Welcome to the ss club.![]()
The darkened edges? Well depends on which version of photoshop you have. But more recent versions i.e. CS3 CS4 you can just navigate to the through the filter menu: filter > distort > lens correction. There will be a bunch of options but you are looking for the sliders to do with vignetting. Usually they are there to get rid of the darkening, however you can reverse the slider to make it darker.
heres a good tutorial to get dramatic images: Photoshop Frenzy - Made for faster learning! Blog Archive Dramatic Gritty Effect
If you don't have Photoshop use GIMP for free. GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program (windows and mac)
Simple Vignetting using The GIMP
