    Default Danny's VT SS

Thought it was time I bought a daily, so went car hunting on the net last week and found a VT SS in Whyalla. Went for a spin on Thursday for a look and brought it home. Was a young chick's car.

It's just a stocko 99 VT SS 5.0L auto. It come with 18" mags but have since put our 20's on it. Other then the wheels it has Advance Headers and a Xforce system, everything else is stock.

Don't plan on doing much to it, just tidy it up a bit more and change those tail lights lol.

And now with the new wheels.

Awwww! completely forgot that early VT's still had the real V8!!! Was thinking you would have a piston slapper clicking on this but no. Tail lights might look okay with out the garnish but dont you have to replace the whole boot with a VX one to get rid of it?

I keep hearing about the sound that the 5L puts out, I must have a really average exhaust (I dont know if its stock or not), because whilst it sounds .. ok... it doesn't sound anywhere near as cool as a 5.7L so far...

Thx guys. Payday is Wednesday, so hopefully will get hold of some stock tail lights to go in it then coz yeah I hate them too lol.

The exhaust sounds pretty sweet, I love it! To start with I thought it was a bit average, but after hearing a few others then hearing mine from the outside it changed my mind. Might have to get a video or sumfin.

It definitely sounds like a nice exhaust which has had a few bucks spent on it, not one that has had a few mufflers kicked out lol. You'd never think it was a chicks car hey, just coz it has a decent exhaust, it's a V8, and the mags that I got on it had zero gutter rash, they're basically brand new!! But yeah she loved it and only decided to sell it coz she needed a ute.

Bought a headlight "restoration" kit 2day and it brought them up like new! As seen in the first pic, the passenger side headlight was pretty much all cloudy from sun damage, and the driver side one had a bit too, but yeah now they look like new! Gonna buy some clear side indicators to replace the orange ones too. Also looking into a power window conversion, hopefully won't be to difficult. Had a look under the console and the connector for the power window switches is there, so just need to hunt down some switches, door wiring, another BCM (it only has a LO bcm) and regulators and that should be the most of it!

It's done about 210,000k's. Yeah I thought it was weird having no power windows. But yeah wasn't gonna let that stop me buying it lol.

Here's a short video of the exhaust.

Here's a b4 and after of the passenger headlight. I think the rest of the sun damage is on the inside of the lens. Doesn't bother me tho, it looks ALOT better then wat it use to lol.

For the headlights I used a kit which I bought from Repco. It's in a smallish box, made by Invision, and it's called a headlight restoration kit. Costs about $40-$50.

It gives u 3 small bottles of different solutions, a few bits of different grade wet 'n dry sand paper, a rubber glove, a scourer pad and a few cloths. Ya mask up around ya headlights, spray one of the solutions on the headlights to clean them, wet it down with water, then start rubbing back with 600 I rekon it was (think they give ya 400 too if ur headlight has pitting), then 1000, 1500 and finally 2000, then clean it again, hand polish it with polish in the kit, clean them again, then finally the 3rd bottle has a sealer in it which is like a clear coat I guess, ya put it on ya cloth and wipe it over which brings it up like new!

Me and me bro done one light each, took about 30-45 mins I guess.

Here's a link to it on their site.

Nice pickup, Those headlights restorations work alright - used one on my old VT headlights, but after about 6 months you'd need to hit them again.

Only seems to be an issue with the VT Series one headlights, think they corrected the issue from the Series II

Garh so jealous of all the WA/SA P-platers! Stuck with my damn 6cyl crap...

Looks nice man and sounds mint As for the tail lights either buy back the original garnish looking ones or pay a panel beater $100 and they will repaint the VT garnish. Check out my car thread to see the painted garnish

    great car

Thx guys, yeah ended up swapping a mate my tail lights for his stocko ones lol. I feel like I got the better end of the deal but he loves the black ones so if he's happy, I'm happy lol.

    Next to a mate's SS.

Finally got rid of the squeeky brakes. Bought new slotted rotors and bendix pads to go all round.

And got some better tunes now. Had been using an FM modulator with a USB input on it, which got annoying, so went hunting for a double din head unit with USB on it and got this.

Have ordered king spring superlows, but haven't picked them up yet tho. Rekon I'll change the front for normal Lows coz I rekon superlow will drop the front to much.

Oh yeah and got the windows tinted now too (which is in some pics above). That would be my best mod yet!! I love them.

Haha I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in another thread that u had posted in, not 100% sure. But yeah, that's our new daily.

Also, we prolly shouldn't have, but got another project too!!! Will have to start a thread on it soon, chucked pics up on AussieV8 but that's about the only spot I've posted it up. It's a HJ Kinga, got it about a month ago. This thing makes ur VK body seem mint! lol
