Hey guys and girls. I have purchased my next project. Its a stock 2000 VX Calais with a LS1. It has full leather and wood grain etc. Is in very good nic. Passenger and rear seats looks like no one has sat in it. The drivers is in good nic to. I bought it 8pm last friday night and since then have installed a twin 2.5" mandrel bent car back exhuast, pedders lowered rear springs to make it sit level and a stereo. The stereo consists of a Kenwood dvd player, alpine type r front spltis, alpine 4 channel amp, alpine mono block and a alpine type x 12" sub (alpine type r 6x9's not yet installed). I have ordered a set of diflippo headers, twin 3" hi flo cats and a 232/234 comp cam. When i get a bit more money its going in to get it all installed along with a tune and OTR. Then off to the converter shop to get a 3000rpm stally. I have also got a VX SS manual diff to go into it as it has 3.46 diff gears. I will get some pics of the stereo soon. I took it up to willowbank raceway the weekend i got it to see what it would run standard and it ran a 14.3 which i think i pretty good considering. Future plans is to have the thing single turboed by the end of the year. Let me know what you all think. Cheers

nice, really like the calais.
sounds like it will be a mean sleeper. i'd say you'll be easy into low 12's or better without the turbo.
3.46 diff with cam, otr, exhaust, stall and tune will be fun. mine ran 12.7 with very similar cam/combo, street trim, street tyres, and stock stall.
you'll want some sticky tyres too :-)

with slicks i would say a high 11 without the turbo, which is pretty hardcore, or a low 12 if you can hook up with street tyres

i want to keep the thing looking like a sleeper but not to sure if i want to put some HSV wheels on it or not. I was thinking of maybe just going 17" VT Calais internationals or some VE calais 18's. Or the other option is jsut to leave it the way it is and keep it sleeper to the max. I am going to have a polished front mount but will hardly be able to see it through the front bar but will have the subtle look about it.
Hey guys. Well not to much has happened. Quit my job so atm it has all been put on hold. Car is sitting in my mates workshop atm getting the headers and cats installed with twin 3" pipe. Pick it up tomorrow so i will add pics then. I have some pics of my stereo aswell which are sitting below. Next on the list is to mafless tune and otr. Then save up a bit more money and install my cam. Still have to buy new pushrods for it. I have also taken off the rear spoiler and fitted led's to my foggies so they light up white and not the gay yellow from factory. I think it looks alot better at night time. All i did was changed the harness to a parker light harness and bought some 6000k led's from autobarn for my parkers and foggies. With Narva ultra blue and the 6000k parkers it makes it look like i have HID lights at night. Quite happy with the result. With the stereo i have taken out the single alpine type x and sold it. I am running 2 fusion power plant 12's in there atm but soon changing to 2 alpine type r 12's.

got the headers and cats on tody with 3" pipe. Kept the centre mufflers and still a 2.5" cat back. Sounds sex. Is loud when into it but when cruising it has a very nice sound. Very happy wit end result.
haha yes the wing is off!! wing on calais = fail! ruins the sexyness of them!!!
i cant stand wings on anything, first thing i did to my SS was take it off...

I'm undecided about the spoilers on or off debate.
For this car, definitely looks better without.
For mine... not so sure. I took my spoiler off for a couple months, but then put it back on. Kind of like the look of it both ways... but yeah.
mmm, most commodores do look better without them!
on the other hand lol, i laugh every time i see a BA-BF XR with the spoiler taken off, for some reason it just looks dumb.
yeah. spoiler on a commodore is a must take off. Unless its a gts or clubsport. I personally like the spoiler on them so it is left original. But ss and calais etc, TAKE IT OFF!!!!! Makes the rear end look lower aswell.
I have been looking into the LED dash light conversions people are doing. very interested to know where you can get this done around the gold coast area. ( I hate electrics) haha. Dont want all blue. Want the blue needle and white dials like a few of them have.

Personally I can't stand the VX SS/S pack without the wing... same goes for the VE. But any other VX with a spoiler looks shite. Each to their own I guess
Car looks tidy, I think the VX Calais has a nice look about it, I really wanted one with leather and woodgrain like yours, but I couldn't find one at the right price that was legal for me to drive
Looks like you have the engine plans covered so the only suggestion I'd make (if you ever decide to change) would be the WM Caprice wheels, I think they'd suit it very well.
i am thinking of going either ve super sports or vt calais internationals. dont want anything over the top. i am thinking the internationals to keep the calais theme going.

yeah i know big difference. just not to sure what path i want to go yet. slammed on 20's or the current ride height on calais wheels. keep it a sleeper. Everyone has 20's and dumped these days so not to sure and also 17" tyres are alot cheapers and i will be going through a few sets of tyres. haha. mmmmm. turbo(drool)
also dm, you tell everyone one to get bags. haha. if i go super sports then i will be going bags all round aswell.
everyone says that want SSL's but they dont want it to scrape, there is only one way around that and thats doing what i did, bagging it.
