Just thought I would post up a thread on my Clubbie.
It's a 2000 HSV VX Clubsport R8 in tungsten.
I bought it in late 2009 with about 180,000kms and it just turned over 200,000kms a couple of days ago.
When I bought it it was an auto with mafless tune, pacemaker tri-y's, modded stock exhaust, 90mm TB and SS Inductions "Big Mouth" CAI making 219rwkw.
I bought it to replace my 180sx with coilovers, swaybars, poly bushes, ORC clutch and built sr20 making 260+rwkw, so it was a big difference stepping into the clubbie but my girlfriend was pregnant and we needed something more sedate. I missed the power and handling of the 180sx but loved the comfort, low down torque and lazy feeling of the auto Clubsport.
The car had a water leak and some worn bushes so I replaced the radiator, heater tap and replaced the lower control arm bushes and rear subframe bushes with nolathane and fitted Superpro srut top mount bushes with new bearings. I also fitted Lovells rear springs with Munroe GT Sport shocks and King Springs SL front springs and DBA slotted and drilled 330mm front rotors with QFM pads.
I took the car to Willowbank and ran a best time of 14.8 which was extremely disappointing. My friend's 200sx which on the street was a little behind mine ran a best of 14.1...so after hearing that the SS Inductions intake is often worse than stock I removed it for a DuSpeed, went back to the drags and ran a best of 14.0 which was alot better but still a bit disappointing.
I lost my license for 6 months and decided that I missed driving a manual so started getting parts together for a 6-speed manual conversion.
I got a t56 from a vy clubsport (100,000kms), Tex Z Grip clutch (5,000kms), slave cylinder and GMM Ripshifter for $1500. I bought a braided clutch line, pilot bearing, flywheel bolts and remote bleeder from Monster Clutch Co in USA. I got a brand new VE leather gearknob and leather boot and extra short shifter stick. I used the auto wiring loom and modded it to suit the manual. Also used new gearbox crossmember and mount.
After getting very bad camber wear on the rear tyres even with adjustable bushes I bought a VZ V6 rear end and fitted that aswell as replacing all bushes with polyurethane(except toe bushes) and had Pedders offset rubber bushes pressed in which solved the camber problem. I also picked up a genuine HSV 3.73 diff for $300 so got that rebuilt with all new bearings and seals and added a Nolathane diff insert to try and stop any axle tramp. I've also fitted a Whiteline Strut brace that I got for a good price.
I've been driving the car around with the auto tune still so will hopefully be getting to PowerTorque soon to get the tune touched up and reflashed as a manual but actually drives fine as it is just with an incorrect speedo...
My previous cars were a 1994 Toyota Lexcen, 1994 R33 GTS25t Skyline, 1996 R33 GTS25t Skyline, 5L VN Commodore, 3.8L VN Commodore and 1993 Nissan 180SX.
I sometimes miss driving an import but have to say I love this car and think I will have it for a long time yet.
Future plans are to fit a cam & valve springs, something around 228ish. Possibly some coilovers and definitely some decent tint. Need to paint the DuSpeed also as it was yellow when I bought it.
Looks pretty sweet mate.Been looked after from what i can see.
hmm not a fan of that yellow in the bay looks so out of place, should have went black or colour coded.
but other then that, the car is so so sexy, always have a soft spot from the r8's![]()
Starin at the world through my rearview
Go on baby scream to God, he can't hear you
I can feel your heart beatin fast cause it's time to die
Gettin high, watchin time fly
looks mint man but i must agree about the yellow VX's FTW
wheel gap is like a vagina the more fingers you can get in the worse it is
Built not Brought
and
Driven not Garaged
The yellow is just how the OTR was when I got it lol. I definitely don't plan on keeping it that colour just haven't got around to respraying it yet and trying to decide on spraying it Tungsten or black...leaning towards black though.
Just resprayed the split engine covers that I got with the car as they were a bit scratched up etc, so OTR will be next.
This is how I bought it...
I've now fitted a polished oil catch can and have repainted the engine covers. Just waiting for some decent weather so I can spray the OTR. I'm thinking of painting the OTR either satin black or a hammer tone black. Then I'll put some more pics up.
i reckon go tungsten man it will look mint

Nice ride, wow wish I had the notion to do the work your putting in.
I decided to go with satin black for the CAI. I think Tungsten would've looked really good but the satin should hopefully blend in with the intake manifold and be a bit less obvious if I get pulled over. Plus I'm thinking of doing the P/S reservoir and the coolant reservoir in black aswell. I have the catchcan all hooked up and the enine covers and intake are now sprayed. Just waiting on the CAI to dry properly so I can fit it.
It's crazy how much crap gets in the PCV setup in the LS1 motors...I pulled the hoses off to neaten them up and decided to clean them out with carby cleaner as there was already a HEAP of gunk and oil in them. Hopefully the catch can will stop it from re-entering the motor now though.
I'll post a pic with the engine covers and OTR fitted up tomorrow hopefully. Hope the satin black looks ok, gotta be better than the yellow though lol.

I'm pretty happy with how the DuSpeed and covers turned out.

Car broke down on me for the first time last week. The clutch master cylinder's plastic pushrod broke in traffic which meant no clutch.
Ended up driving it home late at night without a clutch lol.
Have now fitted a new Genuine one from Holden from a VY with the metal adjustable pushrod so should be all good now.
I also recently put the car up for sale for $17,000 but having second thoughts now so if someone doesn't take it soon I'll try and fit a cam and some valvesprings and maybe even a new exhaust. Wouldn't mind getting some good detailing products and give it a good detail some time soon too.
If anyone is after a VX Clubsport R8 or knows of anyone I am dropping the price to $15,000 as is for the next 2 weeks. I love the car and will miss it but really want another Nissan turbo or Supra.
Putting the car back to stock so if anyone wants to trade stock parts with cash my way hit me up.
I'm in Brisbane and here's a quick list of some of the parts I want to return to stock.
-Genuine 3.73 HSV diff (rebuilt 3,000kms ago)
-GMM Ripshifter
-Duspeed OTRCAI
-Catch Can (3,000kms)
-Rear Shocks Munroe GT Sport (<10,000kms)
-Whiteline Strut Brace
-Chev logo, split engine covers
-Superlow front springs
