2002 VU V6 Auto
When we brought this it already been lowered and had the SS leather interior and body kit fitted.
We already own a XX R8 which my wife uses as daily transport and thought a ute to match would be a good idea.
We looked at several SS utes and dismissed them as they were all high mileage or had suffered a hard life. A Maloo would have been nice but were out of our budget and anyway, we intended to use this too much.
We chose this ute because it was the same colour and body kit style as the R8. We are not a fan of later model kits on early body styles and this one already having the kit fitted made for a substantial saving.
Why a V6 you ask? No matter what, it was never intended to be a race car. It was just going to be 'our ute'.
Something that we could/would both drive. It would be used as a ute and see duty as a tow car for our Model T race car. We still have the R8 if we want to engage in some 'spirited driving' or go pick up the grandkids.
It was all red when we got it so we had the front and side panels painted silver to match the R8. It came with a set of (ugly) 17 inch mags and new tyres but when we found a set of 18 inch R8 wheels for the same price that we could sell the 17 inch mags the deal was done.
The original stereo had been removed and replaced with a cheap CD player. We really liked the idea of the steering wheel controls so we purchased a Double Din DVD GPS Bluetooth system that works real well from the original steering wheel controls,
We also fitted the white guage panel and were fortunate enough to get a matching pair of number plates. YR2SLO & U2SL0W.
Future plans? Perhaps move the numberplate to the tailgate centre and fit some intake manifold insulators and a CAI of some sort.
Apart from that the only thing we want to do with it is use it.

also does the ute not have fog lights like the sedan?

Thanks for the kind words.
The ute numberplates have a number 0 and not a letter O.
The body kit is not a Holden/HSV and did not come with spotlights fitted. I have a set of spot lights to fit but the ute is too low and I can't get under to fit them without using a hoist. I can use the hoist at a mates workshop but finding time.....
I also want to paint the dashboardPainting Your Dash in the same silver as the grille and side skirts.
I hope to get the paint mixed this week and spray the dash next week.......![]()
Yes, painting the ute dash. The ute had a completely black dash. I have white faced guages and now want to paint the surround.
The Clubby is all original and staying that way.
Nice vu mate. I've been after that body kit for a while, looks mad.
The kit is a bit of a mixture. The front bar is VT in the grille area but VX in the lower section. I was a bit undecided on the GTO bonnet at first but it has grown on me.
