Hi guys, just picked this up on thursday, my girlfriends cousin sold the car to me, Exterior has minor scratches on it, i would still call it perfect. Interior is perfect except for a few things i can fix up cheaply, they sold it to me for $7000, they stopped using it for 5 months just after a service, they ran it and it was really rough idling, stalling and a hissing noise when accelerating, so they sold it cheaper i think. Had a look around and it was a purge hose on the throttle body, no more rough idling and hissing, perfect.
103000KM's and it was previously a government car, so constantly serviced and everything. I think its a great buy, i will post pics soon.
My plans are to install monaro/altezza headlights, i think they look mean, but not the taillights, they are too common and don't look nice.
Planning on getting 19" wheels and lowering it a little bit. I will probably leave most of it alone other than that, i like it to look a little stock.
Putting my stereo into it, will have it installed by jb-hifi, installed it myself in my vn, will take it and give to them to install, i really cant be stuffed pulling everything apart, i dont have the time lol. So i will have my Pioneer headunit and Cadence amp and sub installed sometime this month hopefully.
Just fixed the middle compartment under the radio for $16 with a new latch, bit of a rip-off but i like it looking correct lol. Glove box needs a new inner, roller and pin are missing on r/h side. Will be getting that tomorrow. The previous owners had kids and they smashed the l/h rear air vent, will it be difficult to get that out and replace it?
I will post pics soon of it in its stock form and later on with some "improvements". Once the air vent is fixed the interior is absolutely immaculate.

Sounds good man. Like the plans. It is a good buy as you said, always serviced which is important![]()
Like the plans for the mods. Make sure you do the HID conversion when you get your headlights ... have a look at my car :P i did it and it makes a hell of a difference at night :P
good luck with it all and post some pics SOON! :P
just an update, fixed the glovebox today and it works great, also picked up a replacement rear vent compartment, they were'nt going to sell me just the vent, only $27 though, and mine had a few scratches on it, so will replace that soon.
can anyone tell me how to remove the rear vent compartment? i took out screws from the bottom next to the front seats and took the centre console lid off and some screws underneath that, but it still seems screwed in somewhere in the middle, any help with that?
Nevermind guys, did a little bit of searching these forums and found what i need to do, bit of work but will be better once i get it done. This is just to get everything in the interior look right, i dont like things broken, lol. After that i will be doing a bit of saving and they some new headlights will be going in, can you explain the HID conversion to me as im not sure what that is lol?
Try this thread here for how to remove the centre console. Once you lift the back of the console there is another two screws underneath. (one to drop the vent pipes and one behind the compartment under the vents.
cheers mate, that will make it a bit easier, will sort all of this out and clean it all up and get some pics of the interior and exterior. Interior will be immaculate once this is done.
The scratches you wont even notice from the photos on the outside either, almost immaculate 103,000kms for $7000. Plus about $70 for the glove box, compartment under the radio and rear vents fix.
HID (High Indensity Discharge) is a special made globe normaly used in expensive euro cars but are now available to us tooIt's basicaly a globe which has its own charger connected to it. It provides 300% more light than normal Halogen. HID comes in colour temperatures ranging from 4300k (kelvin) to 30000k. The best light output is/are 4300 and 6000k. Anything above 6000k ads more colour to the light and less visibility. I for example have 8000k which ads little more blue to it then you would see in 6000k but anything above 8000k is a waste. 12000k is violet. lol so penatration is very poor ... its just colour pretty much.
That's the basic of it =] hope it helps. any questions, ask away =]
so i could probably get the conversion done at autobarn or something?
just finished off fixing the interior. Tray below radio, glovebox and rear vent compartment have all been replaced. It looks immaculate now. So when i get some time away from the misses :P, i will clean in and out and take some photos and post them up!
Where abouts do you live, if your in Vic somewhere I don't mind doing your stereo...Stuff getting ripped off by JB...
nah im in SA, i dont want to spend that money, i could do it myself no worries, i just dont have the time and cant be stuffed, i pulled apart half the dash and took out the centre console to remove the rear air vents to replace them, thats just about it, i really cant be arsed doing it, lol.
I will leave the stock stereo in for a while and save up, see how i feel in a while.
Also, with the stock stereo, it was replaced with a second one a long time ago, i believe its the same model, but the rear speakers dont work, the stereo has balancing for the front, left to right but not for front to rear, is that normal. Thought that could be the problem, but i cant work it out. No one has messed around with the stereo other than replacing the stock stereo with another stock stereo. What could the problem be?
The wires may not be plugged in, (to the stereo, or rear speakers), or the rear speakers may have blown, or the HU is stuffed....
Lol...well in that case I can always do it "when I drive to Perth"![]()
(Chaldler wants me to come to Perth and do his car for me, while I'm there he will paint mine...lol) I'll drive drive all the way around Australia helping everyone :x lol
haha, i dont want to put you to that trouble, will have to take the back doors off and have a look at the connections. At the radio end, i have heard of keys to pull the stereo's straight out, where can i get them?
im still wondering why the head unit doesn't even let me do front to rear balancing, how do you get to that setting?
Sure can although Autobarn will charge you $300 for the kit and additional $60 to install if you want them to do it. I prefer Ebay ... not Hong Kong stuff for $60 or so, there is a Sydney dealer that does kits for $158 inc. delivery. That's where I got mine from. nothing wrong with it at all. So you can save your self some money if you want
if i was to get the monaro headlights are there any other things i need to change to get them working? wiring? etc... I would probably buy the HID conversion from the syd dealer and get autobarn to install.
any answers on the stereo, how do you change front to rear balancing on the stereo, is it possible?
cheers for that, i will look into it a little later.
i have a problem with the electric antenna too, the motor whines like its trying to pull the thing down, but it doesn't, also does the same when starting the car and the radio, it tries to push it up, i can hear it, but it's already up? Is the motor gone or something else, heard there is something in the antenna that may have snapped. I have read the article about how to get to the motor and everything but is there an easier way to check over the antenna, as i believe it might not the the motor thats the problem?
