Default Shane's VT SS II 5.7ltr

A bit of an upgrade from the v6 vs toyota lexcen, I recently bought this series 2 vt ss with a 5.7ltr v8. A lot more power then the old car thats for sure! Sorry about the poor quality pics they were all taken on my mobile phone. Let me know what you think of it, or any future mods you suggest...

    Model: VT SS Series 2.

    Colour: White.

    Engine: 5.7ltr Gen3 V8.

Engine Mods: Pacemaker extractors, ported throttle body, bigger cold air intake (ss inductions), k&n air filter, tune by csv.

Exhaust: Xforce twin 2.5" full stainless with chrome tips.

    Gearbox: Stock.

    Suspension: fe2.

Wheels/Tyres: 17" vt ss rims at the moment. I might put the 19" monaro cv8-r rims off my old car on it some time.

Interior: Stock ss, vy/vz ss floor mats.

Stereo: Alpine CD MP3 AAC head unit with iPod connector, aux in and usb input, pioneer front splits, pioneer 6x9's on the parcel shelf, 2x12" kicker competition subs, kicker monoblock amp powering the subs and a cadence amp powering the speakers

Other Mods: Monaro headlights and tail lights, vx boot garnish, tinted windows, strut brace, rear camber kit and alarm system.

Future Mods: Possibly lowered some more, high flow cats, OTR CAI (or mcai with 2 hole mod and gts pipe) and a mafless tune (the last tune was done before the extractors were put on the car and with a different exhaust on it). Possibly vy ss manifold and bigger throttle body.

nice car mate!! good choice. ditch that ss inductions crap and get an otr for starters. all the easy stuff is done for u already which is good. maybe chuck in some diff gears and tune it all up again like u said. Then u get into the expensive stuff ie cam, stallie an FI. good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply mate. Its good all the easy stuff has already been done so I can start saving for the more expensive mods straight away. I'll have to check out your ride thread to get some ideas for my car, looks like you've done a bit of work to your car.

Looking good mate. Glad to see you got a genIII as well!

How's the exhaust sound? You'll have to bring it round one day.

Thanks mate. The exhaust is pretty good, not too loud but has a nice note when you take off.

Thanks . Your car looks nice too, I like the colour. I was thinking of putting some vx ss badges on her, might make her look a bit nicer. Also to go with the vx boot garnish, rather then having the vt ss sticker on there.

Ok, so I need 2 new tyres for my 19's if I'm gonna put them on my car. But I want to get a tune soon to get some more power out of the girl. What do people think I should do first, spend a couple of hundred and get some good tyres for the 19's (not cheap chinese crap tyres!) or spend the money on a tune?
Also I was thinking of going for an otr cai and a mafless tune, but have been reading up on the mcai with the 2 hole mod. What would be the better way to go for the cai, and if I go the mcai is it still worth getting the mafless tune?

Go the tune man! Then once its tuned, no doubt you will chew threw a bit more rubber for a little bit, once you settle down again, then spend money on some tyres for your 19's

if ur gonna get a tune u may aswell get a OTR done at the same time mate. I thinkthe OTR alone is worth a good 10rwkws. These things chew threw tyres somthing shocking and u will be giving it a fair flogging after the tune, so i reckon get the tune frist. And ur looking at 300 a tyre for anything decent which really does suck.

Thanks for the input guys. I was leaning towards the tune, but tyres was the cheaper option lol. I think I'll go with the tune, now just gotta find somewhere to get it done (hopefully in eastern suburbs, melb) and get my hands on an otr. Anyone got any suggestions? And rough prices would be great as well
I took my airbox apart today and the top of the box was clean, but the maf was looking a bit black. Could this be from the oil on the air filter (k&n) or is it something else? If I went mafless with a k&n air filter in the otr could it cause any problems?
Also is it worth getting the cats opened up, or putting some hi flow cats on before the tune? I've already got extractors and exhaust but I think the stock cats are still on there.
My mates dad used to own a tyre joint so that came in handy for getting good tyres cheaper, but he sold the place a couple of weeks ago Also the hoist came in handy a lot

ive herd nothing but good things about chevs mate but ive had GMM do all my work so i am a bit biased but there awesome. I got my Mafless tune+OTR for about $1500. Ive got a k&n filter in my otr and it seems fine. Getting your cats opened up should make a bit of difference apparently there supposed to be a bit of a restriction but i dont think it should make a difference if its before or after the tune.

Yeah, a lot of the LS1 boys use Chevs in Carrum Downs, heard nothing but praise about him.
Talk to Nanos, or Sphinx they go there all the time

Ok thanks for your help guys. Nanos and Sphinx go to the meets at fountain gate don't they? I might have to have a talk to them when I take my car for a drive over that way for one of the meets.
Also I was curious, is the ss inductions cai fitted to my car (by the previous owner) doing any good for the car or could it be restricting? I've heard mixed responses on this topic, but has it been proven either way? Just wondering if I should keep it on there until I get the otr or if I should return it to stock or put an mcai on for now. I'll look into a few places for the tune, etc, in my time off work so I don't think it'd be getting done until early next year some time.

Welcome to the LS1 club. yeah, earlier SS Reductions CAI's sucked ass but the later ones like made this year are meant to be better. Personally I know of a few people that have them and regret it and have gone for the Orssom,CSV or Russo OTR. Those OTR's will set you back somewhere between 500 to 700 bucks. As for tunes etc, definately go see Chev. I run a GTS setup which is a 100mm MAF pipe, no MAF sensor and the monaro mod to the air box and after a tune I net 227rwkw. Nanos has about 225rwkw and he runs an OTR and had Chev tune it. Nothing but good things to say about Chev.

Sounds like I'll have to look into Chev while I've got some time off work. Also I'll have to try to make it to the meet at fountain gate when you guys are all there so I can check out your cars and get advice, etc. Thanks for your help.
I gave the car a nice clean in and out, and gave the engine a tidy up over the weekend. Will have to get some nice pics somewhere and put some up here. Gotta get a new camera though, the phone just doesn't cut it!

I was bored so I debadged the back of the car (except the holden badge). The previous owner put vt ss and series II badges on the vx boot garnish, but I'm thinking of putting a vx ss badge on there. What do you guys think?
I'll put a pic up when I can upoad it to the computer.

Yeah I know what you mean with looking out of place, I wouldn't put vy - ve ss ones on as I don't think they'd suit, but I was thinking as the previous owner updated the look of the back of the car with the vx garnish it kind of made the vt ss sticker look out of place but the vx badge should look ok. I was thinking of putting vx ss badges on the sides of the car as well but I decided I'll leave the vt ss stickers on there.
If I had the vt garnish on I wouldn't put the vx ss badge on as it would probably look out of place.
    Thanks for the comments guys.

Thanks for the comment mate, was good to meet you and the others at the fountain gate meet. And was a good little cruise after the meet as well.

Had a bit of bad luck with the car... Went on a holiday and on the way home (about 2.5hrs from home) the water pump seized up and snapped a belt. Had to get a tow to the nearest town (in the middle of nowhere) and leave the car there overnight so the mechanic could fix it the next day. She's all going well now though.

Then a bit of good luck, got home after the repairs on the car on the 31st then went out for new years, I couldn't drive home new years eve due to the consumption of alcohol so stayed at a mates house and slept in new years day. I get home around midday and a branch has fallen off a gum tree and completely demolished my carport. I was told it fell about half an hour before I got home and if my car was in there it would've been crushed pretty bad...
