I know this has been covered here and there but what would be the ball park price to lower a VYII to SL (fronts) and SSL (rears) with kingsprings? I am under the assumption that shorter shocks and a 4 point camber kit will be needed as well as fitting. How often will I have to get a camber kit? What are the recurring costs involved?
Thanks in advance

$300 to have the springs installed. dont NEED the shorter shocks. Camber kit around $300-$400 installed. Camber kit is simply bushes and they DO wear over time. Maybe in 150,000kms time it could need doing. Seriously just call a few shops and get a proper quote.
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
Ok thanks mate. I thought with SSL's you needed the shortened shocks. I might look into doing it a bit further down the track. Get the money rolling in a bit first![]()

i orderd my springs thu super cheap (king springs) and put them in myself its not that har it only cost me $60 for some sprng compressors plus the cost of the sprngs

Oh ok. I didn't know they were that cheap.
How low are your springs?
Did you need shorter shocks?
Did you need a camber kit?

I run SSLs in rear and SLs in front and I dont run a camber kit or shorter shocks.
Its fine mate..I plan to put SSSLs and SSLs in and see how she goes!![]()

If you want it to handle rather then just look good you're best off fitting new shocks (especially if they haven't been replaced before). I think you will need a camber kit if you're coming form FE1. Borderline if you already have FE2.
I run SSL's and SL's. No shocks, Or camber. They dont need them, Aventualy you'll need new shocks, But its not critical.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I might get the camber kit as it's only $100 but can I fit the camber kit myself or do I need someone else to do it?

Prob someone pro. You wont need a camber kit untill you get wheels. Stockies will not rub anywhere, And the VY comes with an adjustable camber.

I thought the camber kit was to reduce tyre wear as the bad camber would stress on one side of the tyre really badly. For $100 I think it's worth getting the kit; how much would a place charge to fit the kit?

I've never heard of that happening. As i said though, VY's have adjustable camber on them, So whoever fits them will adjust them so nothing like that happens.

cars with IRS which yours would have i would deffiently put camber kit on i got superlow kingsprings all round fitted my self using a $30 spring compressor springs cost 100 for front and 120 for rear. If you go superlow or lower i would advise u get shorter shocks after you take a few hard hits they stock ones give up and go the camber kit aswell otherwise you will wreck a good set of tyres on the inner lip in 7000km.Do it once properly!! will cost u more if u take shortcuts in the long term.
Plus dumped commodores look like a bloody joke without the camber kits, looks like the back wheels are way overloaded and bending to the point where they're ready to pop right off!! LOL!!!!!!!!
Thanks. How much will a camber kit cost to be fitted?

As i said, VY's have adjusting in the rear, Talk to a tyre fitter or something professianly, If the stock camber doesnt have enough adjusting to do what you want, Then buy a camber kit.
But as i said, Speak to a pro before buying/ordering anything.

I am getting Lovell SL springs put in my VY II SS tomorrow.
Not going King Springs, as they are such a harse ride and every car I have ever had or been in that had them, was just crap.
Costing around $500 fitted for the set, and was told to get the wheel alignment and see if I need a kit. Some cars due to different tightening on different parts of the car, will have different camber etc, so he said wait until it settles down, and if further down the track I need one then so be it.
I have been told that the fitting for the camber kit is quite expensive. Maybe there is somewhere cheaper, but one kit I got quoted on was $385 for the parts, and $425 labour.
Seems like a quite expensive excercise, hence why I am not doing it yet.
How much have people paid for camber kit's and labour because that seems way to much to me.

I ended up getting HRL61SL (Superlow) in the rear, which are a touch heavier duty than the normal ones in the catalogue, and got HFL70XSL (Ultralow) in the front.
The guy said he could do the catalogue reccomended springs but said it wouldn't sit even. So he reccomended the slightly lower ones in the front which now makes it look perfect.
Didn't want something that was going to scrape everywhere and look crap, just a nice clean look.
Very nice ride too, not too harsh and no scrubbing.

What has everyone paid for camber kits and installation?
Cheers.

$200 for camber kit (fulcrum brand), $200 for installation plus wheel alignment. I've noticed so much more traction and stability out of the rear ever since it was installed - that and the rear no longer looks like i'm carrying 600kg everywhere with the wheels bowing in.
