VY 914 Questions
Hey Guys,
My old VT had served me well and I figured it was time to move on.
I am now the proud owner of a nice VY Exec with 914 pack. Just wanna ask a few questions about it.
1. Not having sent it back to Holden yet, I've noticed that the blade fuse for the interior lights have been 'rerouted' via a bunch of wires (and a bigger fuse)somewhere else. I believe that there may have been an override button (evident of the small hole on the panel) installed to alternate between the interior map lights and the rest. However, I can only get either one to work when I disconnect the existing fuse and replace it with the standard 10 amp fuse.
Is there a way to get all the interior lights working including the map lights or am I stuck until I take it back to Holden or an auto-electrician?
2. How can I check to see if they've left the police chip in it? The dealer wasn't too sure about it and suggested I take it for a dyno tune to find out.
3. Is it possible to install coloured instrument clusters on a VY?
Thanks in advance everyone! If there are any forum topics that can probably answer these, I wouldn't mind them as well.
Cheers

....didn't we already cover the topic on police chips 1000000000000000 times? The "cop chip", as far as i've heard, is nothing but an urban myth.

There is no "cop chip" in the Gen3 powered cars. They don't even get an uprated tune. They get the same mechanical package as your average off-the-street SS or SV8 buyer.

Mate if you got an Exec, the only noticeable difference from stock will be FE2 suspension, that is if it was fitted with a Police Pack. Mind you the FE2 on exec's is fantastic they handle very well and will easily out-perform a standard exec in a game of 'cat and mouse' due to its superior handling... You'll even be able to stay with an SS if you are a reasonable driver until you get onto the straight stuff!
However, don't assume that it has had anything done to it just because it was previously owned by the Police. It may have been a non-operational vehicle or CAT3 which means it has no enhancements at all from stock.
No current police vehicles have enhanced engines or exhaust systems, so don't waste your time and money with the Dyno...
Cheers

one good thing about an ex-cop car is it should have an lsd, i was also told there is no such thing as a chip and the only reason they seem a bit powerfull over a standard executive is it has been thrashed since day one

Yes it is
http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...2&page=1&pp=10 for the thread - have a read there & look at the great work Phreddy has done for a blue dash. See my sig for a pic of my blue dash (VZ, but the VY are almost identical dash clusters)

But I think the police cars are a lot heavier due to extra body bracing for crash strengthening, so I've heard anyway. My VX ex-Police weighs 1600kg on a weigh bridge with quarter tank of fuel and no people in the car not even the driver, yet the specs say that a stock auto V6 VX is 1525kg, I wish mine was that light, I guess the extra weight may be in the doors, like the series 1 VT's.

Interesting. There's things like the sump protector, which I wouldn't know the weight of. There isn't any extra body work on them than would specifically add weight. If you still have the original 520CCA battery, that's a lot heaier too. The wiring wouldn't weigh anything.
The only Holdens with extra body work are the Government personal protection cars/Limo Statesmens which have armour plating, but they are crushed after finishing service.

Sump protector is about 9 kilos I think, but the doors are bloody heavy, feel approx 10-15 kg heavier per door than other VTII and VX's at work, that would equate to about 60ish kg increase albeit with extra side impact protection.
