Default fitting 20's on VY II Calais

    hi guys,
im thinking of fitting a set of 20's on my vy series 2 calais.
i rather the look of the 20's than the 19's and thats why im going for that.
i know with the 20's there may be some problems with fitting them, any heads up on any problems i may encounter and how to tackle them before i do it. cheers

If your not lowering it, Then you may not have any problems.
If you are, Gaurds rolled, Camber Kit (Depends how low), Speedo may have to be re-calibrated, Whoever fits then may talk you into getting 235's or 225's, Dont. Its dangerous (Overstreching the tyre, 245's are the minimum load) If you want 20's + low, best option is to get coil over suspension, Well in my opinion anyway.

    Oh, And more expensive tyres.

Let me know how you go mate.

They just dont seem to grip as good as the 245s (I have them on my standard VY SS 18's)
You notice it especially when you are turning around roundabouts or into driveways etc etc

Trust me, 245s are better, but its up to you.

225's will wear quicker too. And if you have insurance, And they see them, Doubt they'll cover.

I got the SSSLs in yesterday, its perfect, the ride isnt rough and the fronts just miss the guards, the rears have plenty of room as the guards are rolled.

As i said, 245's will most likely not fit on a lowerd VY.
You gotta do all sorts of things to make 20's fit the right way, not the cheap way.

19's will cost you more for tyres than 20's cause 20's are more common then 19's

and if you get 19's with a dish they look like 18's

yeah and i dont want them to look small. @&*k it ill just get 20's, they look better, even though there gonna take a bit more time and effort, and money i guess!!
fat .36l if i do get 20's do do u suggest i get in the way of lowering, coil over suspension, camber kit, all that jizz? and what did u get done to yours? expensive?

True, but if you can't afford decent tyres then you shouldn't be buying the wheels in the first place. Then again, 225s fit on 16x7"s and will handle way better then on 20" and the tyres cost half the price... sometimes i wonder why people spend so much and end up with something technically worse.

If you want handling dont buy a commodore buy a import or something and due to imports mostly being a turbo a v6 commodore is a common choice for p platers and droping them on 20's is the way to go theses days and yeah its unsafe but how many time s have you herd of a 225 tyre on a 8.5 rim causing a crash or doing damage

Dont bother with a camber kit unless it really is cambering!
When you visually look at my rear wheels, its hardly cambering, so I'm not worried.

If it starts to wear unevenly over time then Ill just swap the two rear tyres over and then the other side will wear.

Its not worth forking out $600+ for a camber kit installed unless its really cambering bad.

    1. Select 20" wheels

    2. Select 245/30 tyres

    3. Guards rolled

    Enjoy.

i'd say a camber kit is a must if you're lowering and getting bigger rims - 8000km's absolutely shagged my tires so i put in a fulcrum camber kit (was about 400 installed + supplied), that and it definately gave me a bit more grip.

Lol ok whatever. A completely stock V6 with 15/16/17s and FE1/FE2 will smoke another V6 that's been dumped, catback, CAI, 20s... Just sayin' . I think it's hilarious that people get performance mods (CAI and catback on a stock V6 is like trying to get blood out of a stone anyway), then go ruin what performance they had in the first place by fitting a retarded wheel/tyre/suspension combo. I know most people who get 20s do it for the looks alone, but 18s are far cheaper, perform better and the chicks won't even know the difference. The only proper reason for getting 20s is to attract other guys in commodores hahaha

Don't mind me, i just like to rant about silly mods :P Go ahead and enjoy your 20s if that makes you happy
