Yes. All models will just come straight out EXCEPT the L67 engine (supercharged) where you will need to remove the steering crossmember and a few other things.
can you remove and replace sump on a vy without removing engine

Yes. All models will just come straight out EXCEPT the L67 engine (supercharged) where you will need to remove the steering crossmember and a few other things.
Where is the variance that impedes the sump removal on the L67 compared to the Ecotec?
I thought you had to lift the block a little to remove the sump on both engines?
To the OP, is your car a 2nd or 3rd gen commo? The VS sump has a different design (beaming brace without the incorporated bell housing reinforcement in the sump) at the rear that may make it easier than a VT on model.

OK, i missed that step, in the VT Series 1 Holden manual for the VT Ecotecs you dont have to. From VX onwards (which is most likely VT S2 as well) you must raise the engine 40mm on all 6 cylinder engines then put 40mm spacers under the left and right hand engine mounts to support the engine.
Now, this is where it gets interesting, as a note on the step (oficially from Holden which is what is used in the Holden workshops), it states this:
With a Gen 3, i havn't worked on one yet, but they're a little different it looks like, apparently you have to invert the whole engine. Here's a note on the Gen 3's from VX series onwards:NOTE: On vehicles with a V6 Supercharged engine, it is necessary to:
a. Remove the front suspension crossmember, refer to Section 3 FRONT SUSPENSION of the VT Series I Service Information.
b. Use safety stands, located under the front engine mounts, to steady the engine assembly.
Important: Because of critical alignment procedures required for oil pan installation, it is strongly recommended that the engine assembly is removed from the vehicle, before oil pan removal.
so i take it one must lift the engine up a bit to do this job ?
chargedvx6,
Sorry about that, i've been running on 6 hours sleep over the past 4 days. Its harder to put whats in my mind into words.
To everyone:
You must raise both the 6 and Super 6 by roughly 40mm.
Then with the Supercharged 6 you need to remove the suspension cross member, which you dont have to do with the standard V6. Thats the only part that differs, and what i meant.
By suspension crossmember, do you mean the K frame? That's all that's under the sump last time I was looking at one. Maybe you mean the transmission beaming brace that goes from the trans bell housing to the engine block on VS- VT then on VX2- VY2 it goes directly to the sump so there is no beaming brace?
edit: I"ve been running on 5 1/2 hours sleep for 8 years now and still don't blame shit on that lol
