Default VY Berlina HVAC Fan Problems ?

    Hi guys,

I have a problem that has just happened with my VY Berlina with single zone climate air.

The HVAC fan does not work on Auto, or fan speeds 1 - 4. The only way it works is on the High setting (select fan setting four, then go one more). The aircon and heat settings work normally on high. The aircon compressor kicks in on the other settings, but no air comes through the vents.

Anybody seen this problem or have any ideas ?

And while I'm at it, it recently started to flow through the demister every now and again regardless of the setting (feet or body). Any ideas on that ?

    Thanks, Brett

The amplifier is stuffed. It is located on the air conditioning unit, directly above the glove box.

To access and remove it is quite simple and definitely DIY.

    1. Unclip the panel below the glove box compartment. It's just clipped into place at two spots.

    2. Remove glove box lid. It is held on by two clips and two rubber buffers that prevent it over-opening. Compress the buffers on each side, open the lid fully and unclip it from the dashboard lower brace.

Look up into the glove compartment space and you will see the blower motor. Wires lead from it to a white fitting above and to the right of the blower. That's the amplifier. Unclip the wiring connector and remove the two screws holding the amplifier into the aircon housing, pull the amplifier out and reverse the process with a new one.

The amplifer is about $80 or so.

The uncontrolled air flow is caused by a defective diaphragm assembly in the air flow control or loss of vacuum due to leaking vacuum lines. It's a common fault. There have been numerous threads on it, but I haven't had the problem so I'm not familiar with the necessary fix.

Calaber, thanks for the great instructions.

A couple of extra points to add to help anyone else with the same problem:

    1. The metal frame that holds the glovebox in place gets in the way when you try to remove the amplifier. You do not need to completely remove the frame, there is a screw holding it to the blower assembly to the right and below the amplifier that you can loosen and it will give enough play to get the amplifier out.

    2. Mine simply had a circuit that the solder had dried on and had come loose (see picture). I soldered it back in place, and refitted it OK. Saved the $80.

    Hi Isszy

I think I was able to get the amplifier out without having to undo that metal bracket, but can't remember. Simple enough to do, anyway.

Regarding your old amplifier. I purchased mine before removing the old one, and when I took it out, it had the same damage as yours. I replaced it with the new one as I already had it, but kept the old one thinking that I could resolder it and it might still work. You've confirmed what I suspected, so thanks for your advice on that one.

Glad to have been of assistance.
