Where is the engine number?

Buying a used car soon and I would like to know where the engine number is so I can do a REVs check. It is a VY II SS.

you can use the number that is in the windscreen.
are you in Vic?
if you are, you can put the rego number (or even the VIN) through the Vicroads system and it will tell you not only the engine number but also if its stolen , written off or encumbered.

The number on the windscreen is the VIN, I need the engine number as well. I think its on the front drivers side of the block I just want to know to find it while I got my head under this blokes bonnet.

Found it.

Still wanted them to match up on the car itself and they did. It's on the drivers side of the block towards the front if anyone wants to know.
