which high flow filters are better out of k&n and Lukey?
wat power gaisn are expected?
personal preferance mate, i got a mate with a lukey in his Vl and swears by it and im running a K&N and i swear by that. i went with K&N because its a proven product, been out there for years and if they reckon its good enough no not void your warranty good enough for me
a lot of people will say they noticed a heap of power increase and some will say none, i believe my car was a little more responsive after fitting it down low and seemed to breathe better around the 3,000 rpm but nothing extremely noticable. maybe its my mind wanting to believe it is doing something.
I went with K&N in mine simply because so many people do it, and very very few people have anything bad to say about them.
I haven't heard anything bad about Lukey, but I also haven't heard that much from people who use them.
I'm sure if you were to pull out a K&N and put in a Lukey there would be bugger all difference.
The truth about the power gains is often stretched a bit, but I believe basic intake mods like this provide a good base to build up on with more serious mods, and you will see results down the track

i have the factory filter in my vy, but in my vr v6 i put a k&n panel filter in and noticed a better throttle response, might have been a tiny bit more power too, like dvsv8 said personal choice, i don't know much about the lukey filter but i have used k&n and was very good to me.
I've used K&N, Lukey and BCM panel filters. K&N and BCM are sprayed with oil and higher flowing whereas the Lukey is a non oil filter and seems to flow about the same as an OEM but is just reuseable.
A K&N is the cheapest way out IMO, just don't apply too much oil as it gets picked up in the airflow and can coat the MAF wires. This can alter the MAF readings

its not really cheaper if your only keepin the car a year or two, the cost of just the recharge kit is probably more than two new genuine filters........
Personally I reckon there are plenty of better ways to spend that $100. There's been plenty of people who've actually measured all the restrictions in the various parts of the intake, and they all found that the least restrictive part of the system is the filter itself.
These are some of the results from one test:
The difference between the red and the yellow lines is how much pressure is lost through the filter, and the blue line is the total intake restriction. Basically saying that the filter is not the weak point in the system.
The entire article is an interesting read, and might even tempt you into testing your own car before deciding if the filter is worth it.

Part 3 is where they start talking about the results.

I use the Lukey washable one now. It is made of a Gauze type cotton, doesnt need oiling and air flow is quite good. Also it catches the Dust particles very well. If washed on regular intervals ie 10,000Km's or so, it will keep great air flow.
I noticed that when I had the K&N installed, I saw quite a large amount of carbon/dust buildup in the throttle body after 5,000km's.
The Lukey one has very little amounts, coming to the conclusion that the Lukey is Filtering the dust better.

I didn't even know Lukey were doing filters when I first started buying my K&N's. But I basically like the idea that just give them a quick clean with the K&N cleaning fluid and your right to go again. I also liked the idea of the filter out lasting the car (possible a sale technique but hey).
Just remember if your going with a cleanable filter to give it a clean at every service (5000 k's) for it to be most beneficial.
