Hi Guys,
I know there are a few threads in relation to changing Auto’s to Manuals and so fourth, But nothing has really satisfied and cleared up the information that I am after.
I have a Vt Manual Commodore, It is damaged but the drive chain is fine. I also just purchased myself a VY Commodore, So new to the VY Scene –
Anyway, My question is, Will all the manual parts from the VT fit onto the VY fine? Are they all the same mounts, bell housing etc?
Also, On a brief description. What is involved in doing the conversion? I am confident to give it a go myself, With the hand of a few mates as long as it could be done in a weekend…
Thanks for all help in advanced,
Cheers,
SuperSix
At the very least you'll need an extra tune - the ECU from the VT is different to the VY.
The mechanical parts are probably the same, at least as far as the bell housing goes, but I have a feeling the tail shaft may be different.

As far as the mechanics, I know the Vy Diff linkage is a bit different. Is it different at the box side as well?
I think danjas pretty much spot on there. It will need a new tune and it will fit streight on.
Pretty sure the tailshaft and diff is the same too
as far as i know it should all fit straight on, same motors, etc from vt-vy.
i know a first year apprentice that did it in a ford ea/eb, he did it over a week and a weekend, but worked well, was going to say it would be cheaper to buy a vy manual but seen as you already have it all then all good, sell the vy auto and what not needed and make a small profit so to speak, new clutch at same time and all good, maybe worth getting the fly wheel machined before putting it in the vy with a new clutch, other than that with a couple of mates could do it id say, good luck if you decide to do it, oh yeh make sure you put locktite on the flywheel bolts when you put it in and tighten it up to make sure they don't work there way loose.
You can't machine the stock flywheels, they are dual mass. If it's rooted, you need a new one.

But what they have in common is that they both are meant to be mated to the ecotec block so i would agree that there would be no problem mounting it.
One thing I might look into is that because you have to change the full engine loom when you do the job, check that the VT one will fit into your VY dash cluster.
Thanks for that info Jarryd,
Could some one clear up for me what exactly needs to be replaced when you change the 'engine loom' ?
And what sort of process is involved when you do change it?
For the wiring loom, you can either replace the loom. Which runs between the transmission and the PCM. OR you can just modify your auto loom to suit. Not that much work to modify the existing one.
As for Tailshaft, depending on which VT Tailshaft may be the same. As of VT Series 2 Tailshafts on all models were the same. Some VT's do have this tailshaft too.
Bell housing will be the same, you'll be able to use the transmission, flywheel if it's ok, clutch and pressure plate (same if ok as well) and the pedal kit from the VT. Just remember to put a cruise control switch on the clutch so it disengages when you go to change gears.
