I've got a problem with my WK. When I press the button on my key the passenger side door will not lock on unlock. When I do it by hand, its fine. The electric window and mirror work fine.
It happened 2 weeks ago but then 'fixed itself'. Then 2 days ago it happened again but I wasnt so lucky. Quite frustrating as I need to lean over to unlock the door for passengers.
What can I check myself? I know if I give the car to a mechanic I'll be charged overpriced for the privilege.
The best thing to do is unplug the door harness where it goes into the body of the car then get a multimeter and test between all the pins of the door plug and the locking plug, this will tell you if you have a damaged cable or not in the door. Try getting a seccond person to move the wires a bit while you testing.
It is not uncommon for the wires to break in the flex between the body and the door
It could be the door lock actuator,
I have had the door lock actuators replaced in 3 out of my 4 doors due to this exact same issue.
Holden changed the manufacturer of the actuators some time in 05 so the replacement ones are alot more reliable.
This is a very common fault in VY's and VZ's
When you order a new actuator it now comes with a latch assembly. It costs less than what the actuator on it's own used to cost,so this is a good thing.
Holden found that many failed actuators were the result of binding-sticking latch assemblies,so they included both together as an assembly.
Also note that if the outer door handle is over-adjusted it can cause this fault.Feel the outside handle and make sure it has some freeplay.
Unless it's an X-Taxi,or has had the passenger door opened and closed a stack of times,i'd say the wiring would be fine.
Wiring breakages were a lot more common on VR-VS,and to a lesser extent on VT-VX.I've never even seen this problem on VYs(wiring harness breakage),and we service stacks of them.
Some idiot threw a maccas cup of sprite in my friends car (thank god) and it went all over the door and down the lock mechanism. Now when he unlocks his car, occasionall his door is the only one that won't unlock.
Found out today the door works intermittently. 99% of the time it wont work but then sometimes it will. Due for a service in 1000km so I might wait until then unless its an easy fix.
Yeah sounds like the actuator. My driver door did the same things your passenger door is doing. A New actuator cost me $140 from holden and took about an hour to swap out.
The caprice is getting serviced by Swiss Motors in WA this month anyways. I think I'll just wait until then. Pain to open to door for my wife every single time I get into the car. For a car this expensive, you'd also think they'd put a key-hole on the passenger side.
hey
the problem with you door will be the "door lock actuator" i've replaced mine ever since works fine now
in katherine NT mine was worth about 180 for my left passenger
I had this problem in my VS, and also have it in rear right passenger door on the VY, but I havent fixed it yet.
Does the lock mechanism TRY and lock? Can you hear it trying, or is there no sign of life from the lock? If it sounds like its trying, then it is most likely the actuator. I was able to get a replacement actuator from the wreckers for the bargain price of $30 to fix my VS, and am hoping for a similar result for the VY.
Also, don't let anyone try and tell you there are different actuators for different doors - the latches, perhaps, but the actuator itself is the same in all four doors.
I endup up paying to get it done. I wasnt confident. I used to do stuff like this on the VX but too concerned about breaking something or scratching the leather etc.
