Default Strange issue with fuel gauge on VY SS

I have had this strange issue with my VY SS ute ever since I bought it in Jan this year but never really tried to get it fixed - until now.

If my tank is running low, I go get fuel, fill it up...

Pay for the fuel, start my car and the needle goes right to full as you would expect.

Less than 2 minutes later, the needle is moving down pretty quickly and it always stops on the 3/4 full mark or thereabouts, then from there on it would just go down at a normal rate like any car would when you drive it.

It never ever stays on full once Ive filled up, it always jumps down to the 3/4 mark.

And no, I am filling it right up, not 3/4 of fuel.

I normally get around 400km per tank and thats all around town driving, I'm normally around average 40km/h and av of 15-16L/100KM on the dash.

Anyone else had a similar issue or can help me out?

    Thanks

I have a similar problem. I think anyway. I run my car untill the dash read, VERY LOW FUEL, had about 15k's left it said.
Anyway, Got to a petrol station, Filled it up. but the pump stopped @ 40 something litres. And i was like, hold on. My tank is bigger then that. Tried to put more fuel in, didnt go. Anway, Went and paid. Started my car and it fuel gauge stopped right on the 3/4 mark. Was like hmmm.
But as i said, Dunno if its a problem yet. Havent filled up since then. So will find out next time i fill up.

mine does the same thing - fill it up, go about 2kms and i'm down to 3/4, but then it sits there for about 200km and works normally after that.. never really bothered me though.

i had a problem where i'd fill up when the fuel light was on and thought i had shit fuel economy, it wouldn't take as much as it would say it needed, would say it had 10 ltrs left and only take about 45ltrs or so, i asked holden and they have a calibration for this, speak to holden about there fuel calibration for the vy, let them know your having gauge problems and had heard there is a calibration for it, maybe a sender unit, but start here and see from there.

    hope helps a bit.

Running the tank that low isn't good for your fuel system mate, you have at most 2-3L of fuel/contaminants for your filters/injectors/pump to play with.
    For all 8 cylinders...

Hi CPBait. This fuel gauge problem has just started to happen on my 2003 VYII. If there is a flash fix for this then great. The bad news is that my VYII is in Ireland! Is is possible to get this flash fix updated on to my car through non-Holden dealer means??

I did shit a spare fuel gauge / pump with my car. I've also read it could be the physical gauge. Is it worth changing this out first?

    many thanks,
