Default Paperclip trick in vy ute?

Can i check fault codes in my ss ute using the old paperclip trick and counting flashes? Or does that only apply to earlier models?

No you can't. It only works in earlier models. You can, however, read ABS and traction control codes by doing that. Short pins 5 and 12 and watch the ABS light. It will flash the same way as the earlier models. EG: 12 first 3 times, then any codes 3 times, ending with 12 again.

I've never seen one of these scan tools. Where can they be bought and can they reset the computer after diagnosing the fault codes?

I dont think you're right Abba.... I think you can read a heap of codes , they are all listed in the VX Commodore Haynes Service Manual , I cant see any difference between VX & VY ,,,,

You can't read engine diagnostic trouble codes using a paper clip in everything after VT2. You need a scan tool.
