Ok My vy has been playing up latley. whenever i turn off the engine and get out of the car minutes later the engine will turn and the car will start running on its own. i have no idea what it could be. I tryed a new ignition but it made no difference. Its only when i dont lock the doors though. if i get out of the car and the doors are not locked the car wil generally start within the following 5 to 20 minutes. Its starting to piss me off because it is my work car and when i am at a customers house i dont lock the doors because i often find my self returning to the car a few times to collect paperwork and tools. also when i filled up the tank at the servo she started when i walked into the store, this would make my car really easy to steal because ounce its started it can be driven without the key. does anyone have any idea what this could be? any help would be awsome.
Wow, Thats really funny yet bad.
I really dunno, Maybe fuel is getting passed thru while the car is off? Certain wires could be touching?
I really aint sure, Let me know the answer when you know tho.

Wash it in Holy water!!
haha. my old man says it needs an exorcism. strangely enough the previous owner was an old man that died before i bought the car......
maybe the old man is missing his old ride, and wanna take it for a spinhaha. my old man says it needs an exorcism. strangely enough the previous owner was an old man that died before i bought the car......
ok, I think it's wiring, maybe wires touch when they start to cool or something like that ?
or the fuel pump keep sending fuel and the car would start ? it happens, but turn on ? never saw that before x)
Really really ... Fighting Temptations
You dont happpen to have a aftermarker car alarm installed on it ? like one with a remote start and you happen to be pushing the button with out knowing it.
On the back of the ignition you have a black round thing its part of your ignition did you changed that part as well as it could have a short so it makes the car start.
That is a very weird issue, never heard of it before.
As much as I am against every dealing with holden directly, maybe take it in to your local shop and see if they have heard anything.
Or if it ALWAYS happens when its unlocked, you could take it to an auto elec. ro have a look.

My guess would be that the ignition wire is crossing with a costant somewhere, and the reason it only happens when when the doors are unlocked is when you lock it the immobisiler is armed. Maybe?
Though, at on that note, you SHOULDN'T be able to start the car without a key programmed with the correct code into it.
So somehow, your car is not only starting by itself which is odd enough, it's somehow bypassing all of the immobisiler security!
Very very odd...

+1 on the holly water! lol![]()
yes its only happening when the car is unlocked. when it is locked it doesnt happen. i dont think its the fuel pump, because somehow the starer motor is turning the engine as i first stated i thaught it would have been the ignition, but i got one from a wrecker this morning and got my mate to switch it over. no deal. if it helps (dont think it will) around the corner from my house a water main burst on tuesday morning and it was 5am i ended up driving through about 25cm deep of water when the road was flooded. probly not a good idea but it didnt look that deep till i drove through it. it has been happening scince thursday night. First think i thaught was relays but the relays are all ok. If i cant find a way to fix it this weekend i will have to take it to an auto elec and take a day off work. Just sucks cos im a contracter so it will cost me a days work aswell as the repair.
another thing i just realised. if i turn the key to lock the car this problem still occurs. If i use the remote to lock it it doesnt happen. Im asuming locking it with the remote is the only way to activate the immobiliser. and also. no aftermarket car allarm.
disconect the battery and if it still does it stab it with a wooden steak and run it of a bridge!
Contact Holden, as much as I hate them too! Because this is a MAJOR issue imo. and should be sorted out by the manufacturer, no?
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
ok, this has got to be a wiring issue.
Now im not 100% sure if the ignition wires back to a relay or back to the BCM which would either have a mechanical relay or an script which patches when a dry contact is received from the key.
Im betting its in the BCM, cars are just too modern to have Large relays etc now that control fuel pump, ignition, starter etc. I may be wrong.
In any regard id be contacting holden, and seeing if you can get onto any history of the car
whats your rego and where do you live? i'll come help you get 'rid' of the problem

oh great, first post and u gonna steal his car...bravo
Oh great, 1,405'th post and your still as much of a wanker as your first.
Bravo!
Theres no need to argue over post's,
hmm this is really strange, because the ecotecs dont use an auto start feature like the vz's do, so if the barrell was shorting to start, the starter wouldnt disenguage until the short clears, but if the starter disenguages straight after the engine starts, im thinking internal fault in the bcm or pcm

even if the required ignition wires were shorted (dash lights would stay on & car would not turn off)
and somehow the IMMO was not working (not possible by wiring fault)
and the starter wiring somehow engaged, this would need an extraordinary set of coincidences.lol
my money is on some sort of aftermarket alarm being at fault.
*possibly* a BCM issue but it would need to fail in several different specific areas simultaneously
if it is id love to see the BCM...lol

ok guys, now im pissed off. went out lastnight n left my car at home in the driveway and was sure i locked it. got home at 3am n the car was running.. im lucky i live in a secluded area because i reckon anywhere on the streets and it would have been flogged. gonna call my auto elec tomorrow n see what he will do. il refuse to bring it to bay city holden because the last time i took it there to get my car serviced i found that they didnt evan change the oil or the filter. wondering if they evan did anything. anyway il get it checked out n let you know how it goes.
Oh another bay city fan.. Yep stopped taking my car there as I know they changed the oil and filter but anything else.. I think not. Love UV pens.
It will be interesting to read the out come.
Cheers,
Dave
1 week and $170 later. Its fixed.
Turns out that there was an aftermarket alarm installed and i had no idea about it. the auto elec reckons that the previous owner had installed it not knowing that it was factory fitted with one, then they dissconeced the factory one because it was causing problems, but there was also a problem with the body controll module which also contributed to the problem. well im happy its fixed now. was really starting to piss me off.
Glad u got it fixed mate, all good eh?
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Lol this is hilarious, i have never heard of anything like this.
It may be a long shot, but it could be shorting out somewhere causing a bridge to the starter motor? Does it occur more often depending on the weather. It could be a problem much like the faulty warranty sticker which sets the horn off, my horn goes off on hot days a lot.
