i'v searched the forum and i cant find anything, so hear goes.
a good mate of mine is mechnic, and he suggested i get an electric supercharger. i know the ebay ones r all pretty crappy, but are the good ones worth it?
what kind of gains? and what would needed to use it?
cheers.
Dude you did not search hard enough.
Short answer: Don't
Read up on this: Link
EDIT:... Oh and if a Mechanic told you to do this, then i wouldn't let him work on your car.

LOL, here we go again. There would be one thing as cool as an electric supercharger....
Strapping a leaf blower to your throttle body.

Hahahaha ^^^^ Too true!!
Buy one if you want. They don't do anything. They would be more of a restriction than anything.
Buy a real supercharger dude.

Exactly, people build such retarded devices for people who can't afford big power mods (and fair enough for those people, not everyone can afford to spend $4000+ on superchargers and stroker kits etc) and they are out to rip them off in my opinion.
But that's why we are here, to warn people of such junk that claims to give power increases. It's bullshit mate, seriously, save your coin for an ACTUAL supercharger (centrifugal or positive displacement, the choice is yours, both give excellent gains), but save your cash for the good stuff.

If these were a good idea, everyone would have the intake bent around to somehow sit in front of the fan. Compressed air and proper forced induction is the only way.
i got about 4 of these things installed in my computer tower
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
LOL, same here, and even in my computer tower they arn't doing a good enough job atm! It's new computer time anyways.
If you compare these "electric superchargers" if you compared it to a real supercharger (say 6PSI Boost) that's a shit load of work for one pissy little fan. They simply dont work that great, you feel the amount of air those small computer fans actually transfer and you might change your mind. If you want power without putting a supercharger on then look at cooling the air going into the engine. But i definatly suggest a supercharger :P
Wait, a mechanic actually suggested you buy one?
I have a test for you, next time you see him, and he asks you to pass you lets say a spanner. Hand him a screwdriver. Lets test his expertise.
Mate if you want an electric supercharger I will send you a 12 mm fan from my computer, ill post it to you for a bargain price of 99.95 because all that supercharger is, is a little fan in the intake pipe. If anything it would be a restriction.
Electric superchargers, of any kind = fail.
i wonder how well they would work on a lawnmower lol
YouTube - turbo lawn mower
supercharged lawn mowers are for losers lol
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
ahaha i ebayed' the electric charger...they claim gains of up to %25 holy F****N S***T thats a fraction of the price of quad turbo setup used on the buggatti Veyron... dont try it its almost as bad as the resistor that increases power by 15hp. you would get better results doing a home made underthe filter box cai with a k&n filter... plus those things would look like something from cheap as chips in ur engine bay too... save up, buy a HARROP
There will never cease to be people who think there onto something when they here about electric superchargers.
Hey, add an electric blower with a cop chip and flux capacitor, and you could outrun an Veyron![]()

Ignoring the cheap shit ones available on the net..
Supercharging works by providing pressurised air to the combustion chamber. How that air is pressurised is not important. It could well be an electric motor or fan.
What make sthe ebay ones fail, is the fact that the fans are not sealable, meaning excess air pressure can leak back past the fan. If it was an electric powered pump of some sort that could provide 1000cfm at 10 psi to the Throttle body, you'd be in with a shot. Actually their are such beasts on the market. There called compressors (tank style).
I wonder if anyone has experimented with a ducted fan maybe ? You can get a reasonable seal effect on those. Bit like the dicted props on jet ski's. Mind you, you'd have to hook it up to a 10kw 3phase electric motor via a 1:10 gearbox to get it spinning. Not exactly practical for an engine bay.
That being said, dc brushless electric motors can generate some serious air movement. But unless theres a method of sealing it, that air is just gonna leak back past the fan.
True and at the same time i bet you could hold your hand over the blowing side pretty easy, try and hold your hand over the intake of a car completely blocking it. Thats why the induction is forced into the intake with proper blowers.
Wank factor for this product is 10 out of 10.
No offence OP but I have never heard of a mechanic actually suggesting them. The opposite if anything.
