There's probably about 100 posts on this but I'm in the South-East suburbs, wanting to know of a good place to get my ute lowered, preferably around the Dandenong - Cranbourne area. Thanks.
rowville - tyres and more
they deal in alot of race set ups and are no-bs.
or you could do it yourself![]()
Thanks mate, but i found a place that's local, says he will do it for $550, just the springs fitted.
To my understanding the S2 VY's are fitted with fe2 suspension, so will i need shortened shocks or can I get away with not having them...
Yeah, ur getting jibbed.
$280 for springs, And 0 labour if you do it yourself. Not hard at all.
My 2003 VY Holden Commodore
Ok thanks, now what springs to go with, i've got a set of aftermarket 19" Sigs to bolt on, I'm wanting the ute to sit flat rather then having it lower at the back... Suggestions?
SSL's at rear, SL's at front. Commodores sit front down.
Depends how low you want it aswell, You have a ute? So you using it for work? If so, Dont lower it. Maybe SL's.
My 2003 VY Holden Commodore
I don't use it for work as much anymore, so it doesn't matter how low...
A few guys have said SSL in the front, and SSSL in the rear.
I don't want to have to roll my guards either, so would these springs sit ok with the 19's?
With SSSL's at the rear (same as my car), You'll def need your gaurds rolled. SSL's rear and SL's you'll prob get away with not rolling them. Depends on the wheel offset and alot of things.
If you want it real low, roll your gaurds yourself. its not hard, And you can spend a whole day on it, making it perfect. Just use a heatgun and something hard/round. like a 100mm metal pole or something.

If i were to put Super Lows all round is it still going to noticebly sit higher in the back? And how much of the wheel would i be tucking?

with lowering commeys the thin you have to remember is the bearings on the strut tops can be dameged easily i would take it to a pro
Bidding for a set of SL's & SSL's on eBay. It's up too $202 so far, good deal or not???
Mmm, I'd prefer 2 get a brand new set for an extra $80.
If there new, Thats ok.
My 2003 VY Holden Commodore
So chuck in a new set of bearings...what's the big deal there?
It will take you an afternoon to do the springs yourself at home.
Struts out, spring compressors on, old springs out, new ones compressed, new ones in.
If you dont buy shorter shocks and leave the FE2 ones in there you wont even need to compress the springs to put them back onto the strut.
There isnt really much you can screw up. It's 3 bolts, a couple of lines and a compression of the spring.
I bought myself a 2004 VY S2 S pack in Feb this year, i want to get it lowered far enough to have the cops scratching their heads, but not illegal.
How much would a complete set up cost. i will also be putting a set of 19" Dolce chromes in the arches so will this be a problem.
For a KYB (which are FAR better than Monroe) shock and King Springs combo for the VY, you're looking at $675:

Cheers mate. will i need a camber kit if chucking 19's under it?
I've put SL's in the back, going to get the front done this weekend. Back sits alot lower then i was expecting from the SL's... I'm assuming this is because the front isn't dropped yet?
that looks really nice, not too low.
they'll still got to settle a little too, nice work![]()

I've gone down to bump stop height all around.
I've got Monroe GT Shortened front struts and have yet to do the rear shocks.
Have about 30-35mm travel all around now that I have shortened front struts and shorter bump stops
Still got original shocks on.
Of course the rear springs are not captive and need to be.
So I'm trying to find a set of shocks that will keep the springs captive.
I was looking at the Monroe GT lowered gas shock, but am unsure if it will be short enough to keep the springs captive.
Does anyone know?
Also does anyone have any ideas as to what would be a good heavy duty shock for this setup?
Please include model number if possible
Would be sitting on bump stops if they were original ones, but currently have shorter ones.
ute doesn't get used to carry heavy loads.
It also looks like I'm going to have to camber kit the rear.
Does anyone know if I can get away with just the one kit, or do I need 2?
Thanks.
