Hey guys,
Is there anyway i can check for engine fault codes on my Vy ss? My check engine light comes on on cold starts mainly then goes away.
Is it worth investing in a OBD unit?
Cheers.
The DM-100OBD or the larger DM-200OBD have an OBDII interface that allows you to display all OBDII parameters in real time and also scan and clear them.
If you can't justify $500 odd then a quick trip to most mechanics or Holden and a scan with a tech 2 diagnostic tool should show the cause of the check engine code. Get a print out which costs a little more but at least they can't make up some little extras that aren't there

Just buy an aftermarket Maintenance Manual from Repco & it explains how to read the error codes by shorting out 2 pins on the underdash OBD connector & counting the "Check Engine Light Flashes, also the manual then lists what the error codes stand for......
Ahh ok so you can do that with vy ss as well, i use to do that with my vp!
Cool, cheers.
Sure can , theres a lot more codes on the VY though, your problem sounds like an Oxygen sensor fault. Sensing rich mixture after cold start till ECU programs leaner fuel as engine warms up. Check your Oxy sensor wires are secure & not chafed thru onto bodywork or exhaust plumbing. Check your Oxy sensor earth wires actually do earth out. (the manual you buy will explain how to do this.)
Yeh i got a feeling its the O2 sensor as well. I was told that with Vy's you cant bridge pins on the OBD connector to get fault codes. Is that true? Anyone tried it before?
