I got a new fuel cap sprayed and i fitted it up, but now when I pull my fuel cap leaver next to the drivers seat the cap wont open. I have to get someone else to pull the leaver while I shove my key behind the flap and flip it open.
How do they spring open automatically? anyone have photos or a good explanation? thanks.
There's a little catch that slides back when the lever is pulled in the car. Mabye some inox spray or something might help, probably sticking a bit.
I'm assuming the catch works properly, the way juzo explained, but a small spring or something must be missing that causes it to 'jump' out and not simply lock itself again.
Might be the same as yours Juzo, is there a spring that stops it sitting limply?
The bit pulls back, if it didnt pull back then it wouldnt open. It doesnt get sprung out when the bit pushes back. So you pull the level the little nub retracts and you let go of the lever and the little nub just grabs the flap again. Hence why someone needs to pull the lever and then I have to pull the flap out at the same time.
I just checked my VY. There is a small spring fitted inside the catch on the inside of the petol flap. If your car doesn't have that piece of spring steel clipped into the cover flap, it won't spring open when you pull the release lever.
Mine was doing that exact thing, pulled it all apart and nothing was wrong, so i filed bout a 1/16 of that little black bit that pokes out. Fixed it so i dunno if it was the problem or not.
I had the same thing. I broke my fuel door and bought a new one from the parts dealer. sprayed it all up and put it back in and it didn't work. it came with a little metal spring catch type thing and you slide it inside the door, theres a small gap for it. whoever did your job (unless it was you yourself) didn't assemble it properly. otherwise the metal thing is broken.
Metal clip? thats what im missing. Yeah i picked it up msyelf from the wreckers so didnt get this bit, ill have to go back and pick it up, thanks.
