Default Screwdriver pushed down fuel line... please help

Well its exactly as the title describes it.

My cousin was trying to fill my car up with some petrol from one of his small boat tanks, as he had used my car for the day and I really needed the fuel.

As he was pouring the fuel in he used a screw driver to open the little flap inside of the fuel line, some how he managed to drop it down the hole way.

I'm not sure how far its gone down as the little metal flap is covering it.

Trust me if I had of been their at the time I wouldn't of used a screwdriver, or at least used one that was thicker then the hole.

Sorry for the hassle guys but just got a few questions
-How big a job is it to remove? (would it consist taking of the quarter or fuel tank?)
-Will it be damaging to the car or dangerous in any way (just making sure)
-should I just take it to a local mechanics when I can?

I have driven it and also put more fuel in after so seems fine but I'm thinking it could eventually become damaging to the engine.

    cheers James

it could jam the the pump, best drain the tank and then open it up to have a look.

Dont touch the fuel pump inless you need to, its a pain to get back in properly.

Issues with the driver in the tank
    - block the recirculation line
    - block the pump
    - sparks

The screwdriver can't block the pump or the return line.It won't do much damage being in there but i'd advise to get it removed.
Was the fuel 2 stroke mix? Most small boats take take 2 stroke premix fuel, but some run 4 stroke engines or oil injection.

    Hey thanks for replies guys,

Yeh I'm definately going to get it removed, hopefully no damage but.

Nah I thought the same about the fuel, he has a 2 stroke. He had premium unleaded so all good, he hadn't put in the mixture stuff in it yet.

    All good hopefully guys.

My cousin just rang me saying he is going to get his mate (who is a mechanic) to try and get it out over the weekend. A bit of a pain driving all the way out to his area but I just want to get the damn thing out ha ha. So its not as bad a situation as I thought, but it still has the element to become dangerous/damaging.

Also, do you think it would have gone the whole way down to the tank? I thought it would have gotten caught half way or something

If it made it past the fuel flap it's inside the tank, there are no other restrictions in the filler hose or tube.

kk thanks mate, that's what I was unsure about,

also If my cousins friend helping falls though, with him taking it out. Would it cost much at a mechanics? like to remove fuel tank and take screw driver out etc?

It will be in the bottom of the tank mate. Get it out as soon as you can but your car isnt going to die straight away. If you were handy yourself i could explain how to access you fuel tank, remove the pump and reach in and grab it yourself. But if your not confident let the mechanic have it.

I might have a chance myself at getting it out witha little bit of help and knowledge, but really don't want to bother, don't want to put the car in a worse situation. So if I did get my cousins friend(mechanic) to do it, is it a job he would be able to do at my house?
I'm guessing so, that will make things heaps easier.

Yea mate you will just need some screwdrivers and a pai of plyers. Not a hard job just be careful with the fuel obviously.
