Hi
Could people give me their opinion? I have to go to melbourne from brisbane at the end of the week for work training. The place is bloody far out from the airport and I dont have any family or friends there. The place is an hour or so from airport which I figured would cost 100 bucks or so by cab to get there.
Now, the cost of flying and driving is similarish and i dont mind the drive. Has anyone done this trip? If so how much fuel did you use? I think its about 3500kms round trip.
By the way I have a VY V6 wagon

drive. better experience you can stop and go as you want and you dont have to plain it with a bunch of people you dont know. and when you get there you will need a car
I'd be inclined to drive, but i'm a premature grey-nomad and usually take the caravan. You see so much more than you would from the sky and can always pack your own peanuts and tea.
It's not exactly a whole lot of work on a reasonably new car. I'd be more nervous in a car more than 10 years old but having said that it's all about servicing and care.
It all comes down to comfort. Take what 3hrs by plane or 2 days by car? Have to sit beside or near some annoying kid or crying baby in the plane, or be listening to your favorite song with the window down and cool air on your face. If cost isn't the issue then look outside the box.
Yeah Id say it depends on how long your going up for, how long you want to spend driving up there. It would be quite a pleasant drive up there if you did it over 2 days and stopped somewhere along the way slept in the car or something and just took your time making stops along the way.
I did from Melbourne to Kempsey which is just below the Queenslander border in my VR V6 and I rekon i wouldve used about 2 and a half tanks of petrol, maybe 3. I was filling up at half a tank so I kinda lost count.
I wouldnt drive up there if you were planning on doing the drive quick, staying up there for 2 days then comming back because you will pretty much hate it.
Also driving on your own long distance will be boring as...well as far as I'm concerned.
If you have the time drive there and go fishing, taking your time. It's sorta like a mini fishing trip/holiday.
If it's purely for work purpose fly no doubt, in and out.
do u want to spend 2 days in the same place, cramped inside a car. Or spend 3 hours cramped inside a very small place. I'd surely bite the bullet and fly, and rent a car
Its for work, fly and get the cab.
See if work will cover costs.... It'll be tax deductable aswell, so any costs to you can be claimed.
Fly & work should cover the cab fares..
if you drive down you will kicking yourself and thinking "why dident i listen to all those smart people on that just commodores forum."
the drive is fun for the 1st 2 hours then it just gets to be a pain.
fly it!!!
yeah dude, id fly, get a cab, it'll be prolly more then $100 cab fare, Vic cab prices are and absolute JOKE, 2km cost $18 at 9:30 pm.
or fly and spend the money you'll save on petrol driving down, on a rental and then you have money for booze lol!!!
