hey y'all,
i'm new here - a recent convert - i just sold my Jeep Grand Cherokee last week (which was a petrol guzzling monster...whilst fun!), and am looking around for a VZ or VY Crewman.
Probably want to spend less than $18k ideally, for something with about 100k on the clock....
Any tips from users on pitfalls to avoid or gotchas i should be aware of with this model and of this age?
Would appreciate any tips/tricks!!

Just read through the issues with vy stcky. The only other thing i would watch out for- if it has been lowered check that the tail shaft hasnt rubbed on the petrol tank.
The other main one would be the strut top mount bushes, they have a habit of collapsing.
Cheers Shane

yeah cool - i'm kinda looking at something like this:
Holden Crewman 2004 SS - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 15-Oct-09 11:27:33 AEDST)
Yeah i'm looking at converting to a crewman(v6) as well. I'll be interested to see what people say about them
I havent got a view from personal expeirience, but from what i've heard, Dont expect the crewie to do anything as good as its sedan (or ute for that matter) counterpart. They dont handle as well, they drink more fuel and are noticeably slower. In saying that they would be bloody handy as an alternative to a ute and reliable if you can find one thats had the right thing done by it.
I have a 2004 VY SS, and yes they are a little slugglish of the mark, but they do get up and go once in higher revs. The VY diff ratio gives you a fair bit out of 1st and second gear which makes up for it. Petrol isnt too bad, i get 13.8L/100km around town and down to 8.99l/100km on the highway. But having some fun u can get 200km of a tank.
I do get a bit of driveshaft backlash in 1st, common problem i think. I wouldnt go for the v6 version, remember they are 200kg heavier than the sedan version so the 5.7ltr or 6ltr is a must to compensate. Can't wait to do some mods![]()
We had aV6 VY Crewman at work a few years back. The fuel consumption was frightening because the Crewman is so heavy and the V6 was working hard to pull it around.
Even an SS is going to be thirstier than the equivalent sedan just because of the extra weight. It was also a cumbersome thing to park, being the longest of all the VY/VZ's (I think it might even be longer than the Stato).
