Dear all,
this is my first post in here. i Own a Lumina SS06 coupe i believe in australia it's Monaro. Anyway, my current dash cluster is gray silver with green background light. i've been browsing the net and found a site JHP where they sell the same exact shape of my cluster however it's red. so i wanted to get it. however, someone told me that wont' fit and wont' work in my car. i'm just wondering why. anybody knows anything about that. i've attached some pics for more info.
thanks
Ed
There can be issues with the model it came from, ie not being compatible with your car and the fuel sender not working the correct way (this can be fixed with a new fuel sender tho)
you should be able to just swap the face over tho, you would need to open both clusters remove the needels and then the face of the dash, im not 100% sure how its fixed it but i have seen them taken out by other people.
this would mean it would work with your car and you would not need to get things like number of air bags, trans type and number of cylinders reprogramed to sute your car, and the kms (or miles) would be the same.
Also you could look around for one with the 3 window display but you would have to check it will work with your car, do you know what year your car is this will help with people giving you the correct info also???

it will work. make sure it is from the same model and series as your car. eg vy series 2. if you have a series 2 and get a series 2 dash it will work, but you will need it calibrated to suit your fuel tank size and engine. also to your body control module for airbag compatibiltiy.

Holy crap. a monaro with gullwing doors? so cool!!
actually you are both wrong. they are scissor doors. lamborghini style.
gullwing doors, are like those on a toyota sera, or a de lorean (back to the future), suicide doors, are found on old london taxis, and the rear of mazda rx8's. they open backwards. They are called suicide doors because if they come open at speed they will rip off. (commiting suicide to themselves)

In regards to the swap of dash cluster, is there a way of having the speedo adjusted to the km's that are on my current cluster? Obviously if it could be done it would be done through holden or someone i am guessing, so as to not look shonky on resale.
when you take your car with the dash to holden or hsv (if it is a hsv dash) by law they have to put the K's back onto the dash.
WIth the new dash, if it already has more than 100k's on the dash it can't be altered.
if it is less than 100k's then it can be set correctly.

damn, so i am best looking for a dash with a similar amount then. Ebay better have something for me then lol
There are people that can change them, greg in the asr section can do it. But he will need to copy the kms off your old cluster then put into the new one.
Also with a cluster swap, if i got a cluster from a 2003 vy calais or berlina v6, would there be any need to adjust/calibrate when installed on my 2003 vy acclaim wagon? My car is auto and i am pretty sure that all calais and berlinas in vy are auto, so that isnt something i need to worry about.
@OP: since the red cluster is the same physical layout as your grey one, you can simply disassemble both clusters and swap the grey overlay with the red one. The cluster is just clipped together, and the needles are a push fit - just turn the needles against the stop and pull off to remove them, then the overlay just lifts out. Try not to touch the overlay as finger prints are impossible to get off! I slide two pieces of paper under each side of the needle so i can lever it off with my fingers without touching the overlay. Take a photo of your cluster before you take it apart so you can put the needles back in the same position.
If the cluster is the same series as your car, it should be all ok. The odometer will need to be programmed by an instrument technician (holden can't do this).
It will fit, ive done it to mine. Like the others said just get one from the sames series/yr
