Question VY Series II Towbar Install

    Hi All,

My old man has just picked up a towbar for me from a mate, that is the correct one for the VY Commondore, from memory it is a (Heavy Duty - Square Hedge).

I rang a couple of Towbar places and also a couple of wreckers to see if they would install it for me, they all said NO, they are not covered by insurance this way, so it looks like i am gonna have to do it myself, which i don't really mind, but at this stage dont have much of an idea.

Any instructions would be great as i would love it to be able to be ready before christmas, also doing it myself, how long would it be expected to take to install?

Or is there anyone in Melton or near Melton in Victoria that would want to do it for me for a small price $$

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the rear bar to install the towbar so you have access to the rear of the Chassis rails. From looking at mine it looks like the towbar is bolted to the rear of the chassis rails.
"Nonsense, this is the kind of coverings what we humans wear at this period of time. I'm quite sure of it."

Go to your local holden dealer, i bought mine from them and it came with all the instructions, they should be able to print them off for you for nothing, or a small fee i would imagine. It i's not difficult, it only took me about 2 hours

Why do you need a tow bar? How much weight do you intend to tow? Holden have three different towbar specifications (1200, 1600 and 2100kg). So, depending on the weight you intend to tow as to which towbar you install. If you intend using the one you have, make sure it has a plate on it stating it's capacity. If you wish to tow 2100kg you will need to also install Holden's heavy duty tow-pack. Included heat shields etc. Might be a lot cheaper and easier to just go to a tow bar specialist and have them supply and install for you.
