Hey all
I see there are similar posts about this subject but would like your opinion on a new exhaust set up. I have basically a stock VY V6 engine wise and was looking at getting a new exhaust. I have been told I basically have three options - a single 2 1/2 inch catback system, a twin 2 1/4 inch catback system or a twin 2 inch catback system. I was hoping not to have to get extractors. I'm looking for a nice sound (not too loud) with minimal droning! Which system would u recommend and why?
Cheers

i have a single 2 1/2" catback with straight through no resi. its pretty loud when you floor it but when your just cruising driving like an old lady it sounds nice too.. not too loud not too quiet... when on motorway with cruise control, i find no droning at all... seriously.
depends on your driving styles really... the system i got i paid $320 fitted from a shop called BURNSIDE MOTORS, if you live in sunshine coast area (QLD) i highly recommend them...
i only have recording on my mobile but i might be able to get some vids so you can hear?
but put it this way - my mate with a VR copied the setup, mate with a VN ditched rear resi to match, another mate with a VT copied aswell.. and they all sound verrry nice only drone is my mates VS wagon but he has no mufflers at all you cant even talk inside it... nobody likes it haha..
hey mate cheers for the info. i had a single 2 1/2" catback on my previous car (VS) but i had extractors and it sounded good. do extractors make any difference in noise? also do u know if the twin 2 1/4" catback would be louder than the single 2 1/2"? have u heard a twin 2 1/4" in a VY or similar by any chance?
yeh would be great if u could get some vids of yours! if yours a VY?
Twin system is way to big for a standard V6, people run them with superchargers and the like.

G'day.
I'v got a S2 vy with stock motor, Pacemaker extractors, magnaflow cats, and a 2 1/2" mantra cat back with muffler and resi. vewry loud when u give the boot, nce rumble at idle. and no drone at all.
all said and done, if i'd know what it would sound like, i would'v gone lukey cat back with resi. a mate has that in his vy and it sounds MINT!!!! i would recommened the lukey ova anything.
Remove your rear muffler. Will get you sound results and is cost effective.
The V6 benefits nothing from an upgraded system.
extractors do nothing if you use stock cat. 2 1/2 in is awsome on a vy 6 get a nice big tip to increase the sound. ive got a 2 1/2 inch to twin 3.5 inch tips, does alot for the note. not the V8 sound 6er wants, but not as bad as a tiny 4 cylinder riceer
seriously the stupidity on here amazes me.
a v6 benefits nothing from an upgraded system???? are you serious? So the crimple bent 1 1/2 " pipes, are great for performance are they?
seriously, shut up.

sounds like a plan. so how much do u think i'd be up for if i got pacemaker extractors, magnaflow cats and 2 1/2" lukey? also do i need to replace cats or not really? did this set up sound louder than yours or just a "better" sound? not really looking for massively loud just a nice note.
so bascically the idea i have got so far from this thread is pacemaker extractors into single 2 1/2" either mantra or lukey exhaust. anyone know of any good exhaust places in melbourne preferably south eastern suburbs that does a good price? what sort of price am i looking at for this set up?
car line mufflers, around $900 for the setup

the cheapest i can find so far is about $1400 for lukey 2 1/2" catback, pacemaker extractors and a hi flow cat (all fitted). anyone know where i can get any cheaper in melbourne?
also anyone know where i could possibly pick up some second hand extractors?

i got mine done step by step. started at the front. got the pacemakers. (cant remember exactly how much, but was off a guy from here at cheap price, under 600 and fitted myself).
the stock cats, where hitting things under the car at stock ride hieght, so i had them changed. (the stock ones are pretty big, and the highflo's are pretty slim. seamed a good idea to get highflo ones as they only cost me 120 a pop, and need 2... and the catback cost me 3xx something... fitted the whole system myself so cut bout 400 off it.
my mate got his lukey done. full system (headers, cat and cat back) all lukey, cost him 1600!! (pro install) if u can get wholesale parts, and can fit it urself, ur laughing!!
Getting pacemaker extractors and lukey 2 1/2 inch catback tomorrow. thanks for all the info guys.
getting onto a slightly different subject, is it worth getting a cold air intake and k&n air filter? any other mods anyone would recoomend with my set up? cheers
