    Default timing belts etc

Hi, I'm not car minded so plese excuse me if I ask any silly questions. I own a 2003 berlina and am trying to work out weather I should keep it for another 6-12 months or get a new one. So after just having to pay for a new timing belt kit in my husbands ute, i'm wondering when the timing belt etc need to be changed in the Vy's??
Also it's done 157,000kms but in excellent condition fully serviced etc what else that isn't in a normal service would need replacing?
    Thank's in advance

VY's do not have a timing belt.. they run off a chain.
And i dont think i have ever heard of a chain needed replacing
unless it had some thing wrong with it.
About as handy as tits on a bull

They have a serpentine belt that runs the aircon, power steering, water pump etc. There pretty cheap around $40 if u get it changed get the pulleys changed at the same time.

Around 150000kms you may be up for engine/ tranny mounts and strut top bushes along with castor rod bushes. These are all very very common on commodores.

If you were to get them all done at once (assuming they need doing at all) it would only set you back $850-$1000. I would recommend against using genuine bushes except for the engine mounts. Nolathane or similar are longer lasting and better performing if you were to keep the car.

if your husband needed new timing gears/ belt, I'd be telling him to stop flogging the ****en car while it is cold.

as the boys said. serpentine belt, they crack. if they go, no water pump, no power steering, no aircon, no electrics.

timing chains can wear and get loose but you will hear a very audible noise, before they need replacing.

most probably wear on a commy is as chargedvx6 said, bushes and mounts. you also want to get your universal joints replaced, diff oil changed, and new flange gaskets on you next service

YV's dont have universal joints they have rubber doughnuts. Centre joint is not servicable DIY in a VY according to Spicer web site. Diff oil does not need to be replaced unless the car tows heavy loads like a caravan, level just needs to be checked. What should be replaced is the brake fluid and power steering fluid, engine coolant and if no history on auto have it serviced.

you will notice craking in the belt when it needs replacing. However i have seen them left on and not brake for thousands of kays after noticing the cracks.
