Default Best place to take my SS.

Hey guys and gals, i am after some advice on where to take my VY SS in Melbourne.
I have purchased a growler big mouth induction kit and would like to have it fitted.
Also want to get chip upgrade, and maf or mafless tune. Also would like it to be put on the Dyno. If anyone has advice on a GOOD place to take it would be very greatful.

Now a chip upgrade is pretty much just old talk for a tune. Go down to Chevs, or give them a call. Talk to Gary (owner and tuner) Im sure he will recommend a 1 bar mafless tune. This will be conducted on his Dyno Dynamics Dyno. I believe he charges around $900, but i cant remember.

Chevs is one of the only mechanics that I trust. And I can say i have seen 10-15 other vic forums members down there having work done too.

Mate, if your getting a mafless tune, get a OTR instead of using the growler.

Yeah sorry to say but the growler is pretty much pointless, if youre going Mafless, youre going to need to look at OTR's (Over the Radiator Cold Air Induction). You can still fit it and go with a tune though, but they arent as good.

Depending on where you are there are two major workshops that do a lot of the LS1 tuning. Theres Chevs which is in the Eastern Suburbs and theres GMM - General Motors Motorsport in the West.

Ive seen a lot of GMM's work, their otrs etc look dodgy and would recommend Chevs but if youre in the west just go in and talk to GMM and see what they recommend then perhaps head to Chevs with that information in your head.

^ no offense to the guys at HP-F. I know then quite well, and Ian (one of the partners) was a very good client of mine for along time.

But iv heard that alot of people have left with a bad taste in there mouth. Troy_5l is a good example. Went in for a tune and to have his blower rebuilt...got his car back 10weeks later. And made alot less power than quoted.

That said it comes down to the tuner.

I've had work done at GMM that wasn't too bad but i agree their otr's look cheap to me. I've gone mail order and couldn't be happier. Much better result than before.

Another vote for Chev's Performance Centre in Carrum Downs. Either ring or call in and speak to Gary, he won't spin you any bullsh1t and will give you good honest advice. As others have said, forget the Growler intake (I know for a fact that Gary will tell you this), your best gains will be with an OTR.
Even though he's on the other side of Melb to you (if that's the case), I still would call in and have a chat. I drive down there from northern Vic (2.5hr drive) for him to work on my car, and to catch up with the boys on Saturdays. I honestly don't think you'll find a more welcome and friendly workshop to get your car worked on. If you're unsure, jump onto LS1.com.au and have a look at his reputation. You won't be disappointed.

I wouldn't take a 5 litre to HPF, I've got at least 10 unhappy storys from there in my email inbox. But I assume they can tune a ls1 fine since everyone gets the impression they _only_ care about ls1s and just want the stinking old 5 litres out of the way as quickly as possible . If I had a LS1 I would take it to Russos performance even if it ment a big drive. Or GM motorsports. Both are proven winners

A friend of mine set a PB last night in his VY SS, bit of insperation for you , this one is cam+heads but you get the idea (this car would have no trouble at all running a high 11 1/4 mile)

Another bad vote for HPF. Like Troy I took my car in for a tune and got it back 2 months later with a big bill to match the time frame...

What car does your brother drive? one of the other VYs there from last night? I have videos maybe. Old Mr Horse is pretty hard to beat, he drives well. I saw a houthouse green one and some kinda Silver one. The Green one was wobbling around pretty good on the shifts, it doesn't sit as well as Faalap under power maybe non fe2 springs

The silver vz was my brothers, his first time out. I was going to bring mine across but i don't think the stock clutch would handle it too well

Edit: Juzo's brother vs Faalap , what times did your brother end up running only 8.9 in this run, still .1 faster than the foam mobile last time I had it there with the little zoorst so that's ok! did he get down to the mid 8's?

Yeah the ute is local it's been racing for years but it used to have a 450 hp? 400 cube small block. I think this was the first meeting with the big block in it. Dunno how much power that's making now but it's got to be up around 800 I guess. It broke something on the Saturday (I think driveline). That's about as fast as it gets for street cars in this area, there's a few around that time (mid 6's)
