    Default Radiator Hose Clamps

Those spring type hose clamps(the "crimp style" clamp) GM and others are using for coolant hoses are a pain and much more difficult to release and move than the traditional screw type band clip that is still used on some of the coolant hose connections.

The use of the crimp type clamp on the bottom radiator hose is especially difficult and I have replaced mine with a traditional screw type clamp so next time it will be easy to remove when I do another coolant flush job. I will do the same on the top hose next time I need to remove it although these are a bit easier to deal with. I found the only way to remove these crimp clamps without the proper crimp tool is to use adjustable multigrips with a wide mouth.

I know it is possible to over tighten the screw type clamps, and to strip them, but I have never had a new one of these fail on any vehicle or to pierce the hose rubber due to over tightening. I assume GM likes to use the crimp style clamps where possible because they are much faster to install on the production line.

Just wondering what are other people are doing with these.

I dont have any trouble with them. I recently flushed my radiator as well. I found them easy to remove and replace the bottom hose clamp with multigrips. I noticed that on older VT's for example the top hose is the same where as on my VY and other VY's I have seen it is a jubliee type clamp.
I'd steer away from using jubilee type clamps on the heater tap just incase you overtighten them and crack the plastic.

if your talking about the spring clips just get a set of multigrips and you should be fine
i would look at replacing them with the screw type ones cause with the heat and all the spring clips usually start losing their grip after a while
