Hi All,
I have a V6 VY exec.
Whenever I have the car running and i turn it off, then back on soon after (i.e after running into the shops to buy something) it takes forever to start.
It repeatably turns over, and occasionally fires but stalls after 2 seconds of operation. occasionally after trying to start it, nothing happens at all (starter motor won't even turn). Eventually it does start after 10 minutes and runs smoothly.
I originally thought it was the starter motor, but realised this is probably not the case as it does fire but stalls 2 seconds later.
I have ran the fuel low and put fresh fuel in.
I'm going to swap the spark plugs over tomorrow.
I'm thinking it could be the spark plugs or the CT sensor.
Any other ideas??
I had similair problem on my gen3 it was the coolant temp sensor.
Ok so I dont think its my Coolant Temp sensor as I have no "check engine" warning light staring at me..
Any other ideas??
You've probably got a blocked fuel filter or your fuel pump isn't working properly, which can cause the car to stall and turn over. Since you ran your car dry it must have picked up dirt from the bottom of the tank into the fuel filter, or even possibly clogged up your fuel pump. You should get a mechanic to check those two components out.
My cars symptoms were i started it dead cold drove around shut the engine off when it got warm and went in to a mates about an hour later come out and it would not start just kept turning over, like it was out of fuel. So put some fuel in still nothing. Went back in the morning and it started first go. drove it around, everything seemed fine. So I went to the car wash washed the car jumped back in same thing again not starting. Left car 4 a couple of hours started first go. Replaced coolant temp sensor and fixed poblem. I cant remeber if my engine light was on or off. I got mine from holden spare parts.
i cant tell u y it does it, but my vy motor does this very thing fairly often wen its fully warm, and its brand new from holden[l67 crate motor], i find holding the accellerator flat to the floor, then starting it makes it go every time its upset. and obviously i take my foot off the moment it starts, so it doesnt over rev. give that a go.
Thanks for your help guys,
All the info helped.
I'm now assuming its the Crank Angle Sensor, because when its warm and won't start, I pour cold water down the front and it magically starts.
Are CAS's hard to change? I know you need a gear puller to take the harmonic balancer off (is that hard?) and then i assume its just a simple as unclipping the old sensor and clipping the new one on??
heres my ride, i know its not much but its mine

Haha i have had nothing but troubles with Crank angle sensors i have replaced 3 in 12months i always carry 5liters of water on hot days..
Also beware of what brands you buy!!!
I brought the ACA brand from Bursons but I think its crap..
Go with genuine if you can.
Cheers
Hi Guys,
Changed the CAS and still have the same issues!! It'll only start when water is applied to the front of the engine (around the Pulley's)
Any thoughts??
I'm desperate!
there's not much left to check other than fuel pressure but I would have said cas?
Did this ever get fixed my VY is doing th same thing its a reall pain in the ass trying to sell it at the moment
try the cdi module replace it and you should be laughing ..
