Hey all, i am hoping to buy a VY soon after selling my vs today.
I see alot of ss exhausts come up for sale and i'm wondering if you got a new Y pipe or pipes from the headers to cats made up, could you bolt up an ss exhaust?
Thanks.
Probably be a WHOLE lot easier to just buy a new exhaust to fit the V6.
Ah thats annoying.
but still, as a theoretical thing it should follow the same path shouldnt it?
If you had pipes to line up the v6 headers >>> ss cats or to ss pipes it should?
Has anyone done this??
I have a VZ exec and have fitted a VY Clubman cat back exhaust. Simple bolt up fit, but you need to fabricate a mount for the right hand side mufflerand get it welded to the subframe as per the left hand side. Everything else was the same. Same spacing on the flanges.
Excellent! thanks mate.
how does it sound on a v6?
Cheers
Better than standard. Not too loud, doesn't attract the wrong type of attention. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have improved economy or performance. I like it, plus it was only $15 on flea-bay! Gotta get lucky sometimes!
I had the cat from the VY SS exhaust welded onto my standard exhaust, sounds pretty good. Adds a touch of performance, but i've had a few compliments about it. But mostly it was cheap as chips.. Cost me $200
Check out my ride!
The SS Exhaust will ONLY bolt straight on a VY Supercharged V6 engined car. As the Supercharged donk has identical twin cats twin system right back to the rear muffler. The ONLY difference is the SS exhaust chrome tips hang out about 50mm too far beyond the rear bumper bar line , as the rear bar on a normal VY hasnt got the bottom skirt on it that the SS bumper has. Easily fixed by cutting 50 mm off the rear pipes & rewelding the chrome tips back on. I have put a SS system on my SuperV6 VY Calais & its a ripper , far better note & notable performance gains. But it wouldnt be worth trying to fit to a non super V6 (too much mucking around)![]()
I beg to differ on a few points. As mentioned earlier, I have fitted a cat back system from a VY Clubbie to my stock standard VZ 175kw exec, so I know that the outlets from the VY Clubman cats are exactly the same spacing and position between these two models. It only stands to reason that the SS and VY V6 should have the same spacing too. Please correct me if you know that I am mistaken.
You are talking VZ , which does have a twin system right thru , but VY has a single system, unless its the supercharged donk......![]()
Thanks for the help here guys, i saw so many standard ss exhausts kicking around for cheap but not sure if its worth it or not..
Cheers.
Most post 2003 series 2 vy's have twin cats - supercharged or not.
Any factory or aftermarket twin exhaust designed to bolt up to a ls1 or L67 will not bolt up to ANY VY n/a ecotec. Been there, done that. If you're adamant on using the twin system then youll need to buy extractors from HM headers and cats from a VY series 1 HSV. That's the simplest way of getting those twin flanges without having to weld up anything.
i dont understand why you would even want one the stock systems are shit fot the ls1 thats why there so many for sale and are very restrictive dunno if there good on a stock ecotec or l67 though
The series one has one cat so it wont but the series 2 has 2 cats and it should.
I dont know about the super6 tho
my vy series 2 ecotec 2004 ute has twin cats.
the series 1 has 1 cat and series 2 has 2 cats as far as i know.
hence why on ebay listings for vy 6cyl exhausts they say "WILL NOT FIT SERIES 2"

Meanwhile my FREAK of a series 2 has only one cat. I lucked out there for sure....
Not all series 2 VY's V6's have twin cats. This was a mod that came out early in 2004 to comply with an updated exhaust emission law, I've had a look at a friends car that has this setup and it also has the revised power steering pressure hose. My VY is a series 2 V6 build in October 2003 and it has a single cat.
well thenlolz it gets more and more confusing.
so what exhaust will fit a series 2 twin cat?![]()
