    Default Cruise Control

Forgive me if this sounds pathetically unintelligent... But im wondering whet effect cruise control has on petrol consumption? i often find myself not only using cruise on the freeway, but when im driving around town too... just because, i guess lol

    Thanks!

It depends entirely on how you drive your car without cruise control on.

I have checked this in Highway driving and the car will use marginally more fuel with cruise control as the system is designed to maintain a constant road speed of course. On rises and hills I will let the car slow a bit but the cruise control pushes more gas to the motor to maintain a fixed road speed. In highway driving I turn the CC off and on as I need it and I don't use it on roads through hilly or undulating areas.

yup, if your driving a flat road from like..melbourne to sydney or somthing..by all means cruise control it all you like but the second u hit a rise in the road your car is going to push it alot harder than you would if u were in complete control because it wants that constant 100 (ill assume ur cruising on 100...just for legality sake lol) its kinda like if ur taking off from lights...or if ur driving straight through on a green...ones consuming heaps of fuel cos its pushing up to get to that speed...the other is just cruising so the rev's are way lower and so is the fuel consumption. Honestly i find cruise control a blessing because im willing to pay those few dollars extra in petrol just to avoid the freakin thousands of speed camera's that are around...when i drive long distances i have a habbit of not noticing that ive creeped up to about 120...not a good idea haha, hope this helps!

Hahaha... thanks guys! ive just bought myself a VY storm ute and im loving the fact that it has cruise control... i guess i just need to learn how to drive my car properly aka more economically..... hahahaha i seem to like the extra power that this car has compared to my old one, and racing people at the lights is far too fun to resist, especially when its a bunch of "fully sick" guys in a honda civic next to me, a little blondie that drives a kick ass black ute hehehehe
