I've been filling up with petrol for the last weeks now and no problem. Saturday I went to fill up the good old 98 Ron Vortex (I usually try to fill up 98 if its available). Since then when the car is off and I come back after an 30 mins or so I can smell petrol in the cabin. If I am in the garage I can smell it there outside the car. Even when I get into the car from leaving it overnight. But this disperses quickly when I start to drive. If I get out after a drive no smell at all. If I stay in the cabin for 3-5 minutes after the engine is off still no smell.
The car has LPG but due to a problem I've been driving it on Petrol for a few weeks with no problems smell problems except the last time I filled up.
I'm thinking it may be a bad batch of fuel but not sure? This morning, with just over half a tank left, no smell.
Aay ideas?
Read about this same problem in another thread on this site recently.
Apparently the cause in that case was either a faulty fuel cap or failure to fully lock on the fuel cap due to insufficient turns.

idno if this helps but due to the warmer days the preasure builds up in the tank. my mate was sayin in his vx he has a fuel smell in the cabin when the air con was on, so i told him to loosen his fuel cap. the moment he did that there was a small hissing like air escaping. he then tightened it back up and it was fine.
On my way out now. I'll check it. Cheers!
Funny enough mate i have the same problem, only happens when i put petrol in though, after a day or so it will go away. You cant smell it while your driving only when your pulled up.
Well, no 'hissss' when I pulled the cap off but it may have been a little loose... had about half a tank but no more smell...
If you spilt some fuel and the hole and tube that is meant to drain it away is blocked this will cause a smell.
Try slowing pouring water around the area (leave your fuel cap on!) and see if it is draining correctly.
Weird mate. Iv'e been noticing since we started summer that no matter how full my tank is, if I leave it idling with the air con on for 15 mins or longer, it starts to smell like petrol outside and inside the cabin, then disappears after I start driving off. My car is not duel fuel and the smell is never there when the car is sitting turned off.
It came back again on a really hot day. I filled up today and I noticed fuel stains around the cap. I cleaned them. Lets see how she goes.
I just had the same issue. I have a VT as well, swap over the caps and problem solved. I noticed that after 15 minutes of driving the cap was coming lose. Might need a replacement cap.
This has to do with Holden routing the fuel tank breather after the charcoal cannister back into the cabin.
Yeah, tell me about it - very bright idea whoever thought of it at Holden.
I faced the same issue in my VY and found out about it then. My GF nearly choked coz I left her in the car for 3 hours in hot sun with AC on and the fuel smell. He he. There is a thread on this, search if you are really keen.
Just ignore it and keep windows open when sitting idle in hot weather. There's nothing wrong with your car.
Well, I just wanted to report that after that 'smelly' tank was empty, I filled up with 91 RON (patrol station was out of 95 & 98 RON). Guess what? Smell was not there. So could it have been that this particular batch of 98 RON I used was bad?
My LPG system is fixed now [under warranty] and I wont be doing as much petrol driving as I did in the last months anyways.
