No they don't but they stop the fly's going onto your engine block.

He's talking about oil filters, not air filters.
You should really look over here: Welcome - but to answer your question, they are supposed to be above average in quality, but wether the difference is significant to justify the extra cost is the real question. If you do your changes on time a much cheaper Ryco filter (which are also quite decent) will be more than sufficient.

I have read a lot of motoring material but cannot say I have ever seen any independent scientific comparison tests of oil filters.
