    Default vy accelerating sound

hey there guys, my friend has bought a vy, everything was check and working when she bought it (apperntly), she has only had it for a couple weeks and it has developed a bit of a sound in the engine bay it sounds like brake pads that have had a hard life, you know with the screeching, but it isnt that loud, and it only happens when she is accelerating.
i was wondering if you guys had any ideas?

Could be a drive belt slipping and making a screeching sound. Maybe the Belt Tensioner is worn and not holding good tension to the belt.
May be worth replacing the Belt.
Other than that, need more info on the type of noise.

There isn't an Air con belt on a VY V6 as the Air con compressor is driven by the main belt...

from what you say it seems the squealing noise increases with engine speed - if so, all the above suggestions are good ones but also include the belt tensioner pulley itself, it may be on the way out but for mine I would guess the alternator bearings are running dry and on the way out - you should be able to locate the source by listening with the hood up and use a stethoscope or metal rod will do placed near or on the suspect part as this will magnify the noise you hear and maybe also feel as the worn bearing turns

it was the pulley and the belt, so we got them to fix it seeing as they said everything was in working order, they also did a proper check up.

thanks for all your replies guys, just didnt want my mate to get ripped off, so i wanted to have an idea of what to get them to look for otherwise theyll charge her for an arm and a leg for a simple job.
