Hi, I'm new to the forum and thought I would pick your collective brains for info on fitting cargo barriers.
I've got a bog standard VY executive wagon that I bought a couple of weeks back. I naively thought that all of the VT/VX/VY/VZ wagon bodies were the same and bought a VT cargo barrier for it off ebay. The VT cargo barrier has a T shaped connector at the top that looks like it would slot into a reciever and be turned to lock into place. My VY just has a threaded hole to receive a bolt to mount to a cargo barrier.
Does anyone know if there is an adaptor that you can get to fit a VT/VX barrier to a VY.
Thanks
I have a VZ Wagon and the cargo barrier fitted by holden when purchased actually says on it "Suits Commodore wagon from 1997 - onwards" I would suggest going to a wrecker (or god forbid holden) and asking for the correct plugs for the factory cargo barrier then you should be sweet! They are the same body on the inside, someone probably just put an aftermarket barrier onto it at some point.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have a look at some wreckers and see what I can come up with.
There were two different methods of mounting the upper points on the VT to VZ models and from what you have described, it's arse-about to our experience with my son's VZ Acclaim.
He bought a VT barrier and we found that it was meant to be held at the top by two large, threaded bolts, with a plastic T head on each one. The mounting points in his VZ were the type that took a bayonet-type fitting, where you pushed the upper mounting screws into the socket then turned them 90 degrees and they locked in. They were spring loaded to ensure they stayed under tension and didn't dislodge.
I adapted the VT barrier to fit into his car by making up two push and turn fittings out of cut down bolts, with springs fitted between the mounting arm on the barrier and the head of the bolt, and drilling through each bolt and inserting a cut-down steel pin. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos at the time, but the barrier secured in properly and didn't move or rattle. The mounting bolts are not serviced by Holden as spare parts and are only available with the complete barrier.
Thanks Calaber,
I am curious as to whether the bayonet style reciever is a separate piece that is removable from the frame of the wagon or if it is fixed to the frame. If it is fixed I think I will just give up and re-sell the barrier I have on ebay and look out for one with the screw thread and T-piece that you refer to in your post. If the receiver is removable and can be adapted to the VY I'll hit the wreckers this weekend and try and find a pair.
Thanks again
Hi Fish-cruiser
No, the receivers were holes stamped into the roof upper rail, and were finished off with a clip-on plastic cover with an identically shaped opening in the centre. These clipped on to the rail, over the roof lining, to give a neat finish.
Are you sure that your VY has the screw-in type holes in the roof? If so, I might still have the T-piece upper bolts because we didn't use them and if I can find them, you would be welcome to them.
If your VY has the screw in type of mounting, it must have been a late VY or VZ modification that saw them replaced with the push-and-turn fitting.
Yeah, definitely has a threaded hole receiver. I cut the bayonet type bolts off today and will head to the local fastener place to try and match the thread and pick up a couple of bolts during the week. If you still had the original bolts and didn't need them i'd definitely be keen. Let me know if you have them and I can send you a return addressed envelope to post them up in.
Thanks
