I removed one in my VY exec too.
The red wire is constant power
The blue wire is ignition power
    The black wire is earth
The yellow wire is stereo mute.

There is a "box" behind the stereo which you can access by removing the glove box and the console side trim. If you can disconnect that and tape up the above listed wires properly then there should be no problem. I actually used the red and blue wires to power other accessories I have put in my car.

i checked to do what u said. thats what ive done. i hope this isnt a stupid question but im so confused with my car. does the constant power line put out power when the car is off? i used the multi reader and it had about 12.5 volts going thru it. could that be the prob?
    thanks

The constant earth is basically a direct connection to your battery. And it will have 12.5 volts because that will be your battery voltage. Amps is what you want to measure, if there are amps going through the wire then it will flatten you battery.

How exactly did you remove. Did it actually get removed or is it still there.

Maybe, if the wires are somehow earthing to the body. Maybe try pulling the fuse that powers this circuit.

To find the fuse, just trace the wire back. I would recommend just buying one of those cap end pieces ( i have no idea what they are called), basically they just stop the end of the wire grounding on anything. Any decent electrical store will have them, just explain what you need.

Huh, why is everyone cutting wires. You don't need to cut ANYTHING to remove the kit from the car. There's a white plug on the left side of the center console which provides power and all the audio connections to interface the radio with the unit. Once you unplug this and remove the unit, microphone and cradle your car should be as if it rolled off the production line. No unterminated wires or other dodgy mess.

Imo if you've insulated the wires, then there may be some other reason you're battery is draining. Altho his started to occur when you disconnected the hands free, right?

I cut my wires to utilise the acc power, constant power and the earth.

Doesn't it frustrate you when you go to all the work of trying to fix the problem and it turns out to be something totally unrelated and simple? The amount of times thats happened to me.

I just spent 2 days undoing all this stuff on my car to fit new lifters, get all the necessary gear (gaskets, sealant, coolant, assembly lube, etc) and it turns out to be a pushrod problem. Now I need more gear and realised I didn't need to do 90% of the work I did.
