Factory tail lights question

Hi,

I have noticed on my series 1 SS that my rear tail lights are slightly different to each other in that one of them has a cover/diffuser over the end of the brake light bulb (inside the casing itself) and the other doesnt. I assume somewhere along the line one of them has been replaced, but I was wondering which would it have had out of the factory, the brake light bulb with the cover or without? Its only a small thing but its something I notice.

Is it possible to take the diffuser out of the tail light at all? Looking closely it appears to clip in but im not sure if you could remove it through the hole where the bulb goes in.

I'd say the one with the cover is from a series 1. I have a series 2 and it doesn't have the cover and I bought a rear rhs light from a series 1 S and it had the cover so I could not use it
