    Default Aftermarket Exhaust Faults

    Hey yall,
Quick one, i have had an aftermarket exhaust on the car for about 4 years,in those for years the rubber on the back has let go about 7 or 8.... is really starting to annoy me. Got to the point where i now have spares as i cant be bothered going back to the place that put it on

It has just snapped again, and from what i can see, looks fairly basic to replace (famous last words). Do any of you have the same problem with them snapping???? and has anyone replaced one?

    Cheers yall
    -Peace

The 'fault' as you put it, isn't the system, but probably the way it was fitted. If there is too much tension on the rear rubbers they will always break.

Another thing is that the sports system gets a lot hotter than the standard system because it flows better so the rear rubbers heat up and perish quicker. The front one doesn't do it as often because it is thicker.

well that would make sense, but of the fitment does cause to much tension, is there a way to fix it now? or just buy shares in the rubber company?

    Some elbow grease.

Does the tail pipe hang down and does it feel like it pushes back down when you hold it up in position?

with the rubber currently snapped it sit about 25 to 30mm lower then normal at the tip, harder to gauge the rest of the tail pipe as i never paid any attention to where it say befor hand. i can visualy see that the tip is lower from the cut out in the rear bar. The main movement has been let to right.

If there is a bit of pressure holding the pipe down, you will need to lift it up.

Remove the remaining rubber on the rear. Put a block of wood or something between the front muffler and the floor to wedge it down, then grab the tail pipe and lift it up. It will bend the pipe a little bit, but this is necessary to take the tension off the rubber hangers. Remove the wedge and fit new rubbers to the rear.

Sometimes it is necessary to remove the front rubber as well to get the muffler to come down far enough to get the required adjustment on the tail pipe. While you are at it, I would fit a new rubber to the front as well, just to have a new one there as the old one will be perished and stretched too.
