Default will ve ssv 19s fit?

hey im getting some ve ssv 19s and want to know if they will fit my vy.
im aware the hubs need machining but my concern was the tyres.
theyre 235/40 i think and i was wondering if i will have any rubbing issues.
the car is going to be sitting at suoer low height.

    any help would be appreciated.
    cheers

They should fit fine, you might have to get your guards rolled like i did.. it's pretty cheap. Just make sure you go somewhere that does it properly.

The tyres will most likely be 245/40R19 and they are too big for your VY. You need 245/35R19's.

By too big I mean to say that they (245/40R19's) are 679mm in diameter and 245/35R19's are 654mm. Your standard tyres were most likely about 645mm in diameter.

    What does all this mean?
    1. Your car will be higher off the ground as the diameter of the tyres is larger.
    2. You MAY have problems fitting them under the guards (you might not either)
    3. Your speedo will be out (more than it already is).
    4. Acceleration is decreased.
    5. Brake performance is decreased.
    6. The tyre size increase is not legal. (you can only increase by 15mm)

but if i got the sppedo recalibrated by a tech 2 that will resolve that issue wont it?
im not worried about the decrease in braking and acceleration.
and i guess i will risk the last one.

my mate had 20s on his vz which was dumped and they fit fine.
    they were 235/35/r20 i think

Hmm I'm thinking about getting the same rims but for my VX acclaim and was wondering the same. Also i thought if you got a HSV 19- 20" rim tyre placard and put it on your car you can have 19's legally.

19" and 20" rims are legal on pre VE's... that's not the issue, it's the tyre size and load rating that you need to be careful of. You don't need to change your tyre placard (which is illegal too).

i got ve ssv's on mine running 245/35/r19 and its meant to have SSL kings in the rear but i dont think it does, anyway if i was to go lower i would have to get the guards rolled/pumped because theres about a finger width between the tyre and guard now..check out my ride for pics link is in sig.

aside from all the facts about diameter, ve have a new stud pattern if im not mistaken, u would have to get the offset changed to fit pre ve cars

hey mate i just bought the same rims for my vu with the standard ve tyres still on them 245/40, the tyres will be to big but they do fit.there is about a mm gap between tyre and strut on the front and i cant turn at full lock without it rubbing on the guard, the rear is fine, ive got ssl springs all round, i think you need 245/35

i am also looking to get these wheels, how much of a mission is it to get them to fit, how does the hub need to be machined?

The centre-bore on the rim itself needs to be machined slightly to fit over pre VE hubs.

bugger, that makes it a bit of mission, would the rims have to be put on a lathe to do that or is there another way... i guess what i am asking what is the easiest way to fit these wheels?

yer a bit before full lock its not too bad , but the tyres will not be legal cause of the outside diametre being too large and it looks kinda weird with big tyres on em too

For the NSW/Sydney area guys i recommend sending VE rims to be machined at Payless tyres in chullora. They machined my VE SSV's for just $12.50 a wheel. The stud pattern is not different, just the centre bore size. For these 19's and other holden 19's on pre-ve's you should run either 245/35 or 235/35 profile tyres.

In addition, in NSW i know this for sure but the old school 2 inch rule has not applied for quite a while now. It's now something to the effect of it's legal "as long as the rolling diameter of the wheel and tyre does not exceed either more or less than 25mm of the stock wheel/tyre combination".

for example, a stock 15" commodore wheel (VR-VZ) typically wears 205/65/15 rubber. The overall rolling diameter for this combination is 647.5mm. If you were to slap 19's such as the VE SSV's on your pre ve and used either 235 or 245 tyres the rolling diameter would be 647.1 and 654.1mm respectively.

    Hope this helps!
